8 player deal: Reds trade Kearns, Lopez to Nats for Majewski, Bray, Clayton

A picture speaks 1000 words

Exhibit A: Austin Kearns, how do you feel about being traded?

Exhibit B: Jerry Nerron, how do you feel about getting some middle relievers with ERAs actually below 4.00?

 nice.

I thought so too.

Nerron's got that shit-eating smirk and staring down Krivsky, as if he's thinking 'God, I love this man. I may actually skipper a ballclub that'll finish better than 72-90 for a season.'

Kearns, on the other hand, has that thousand-yard stare like he just watched somebody run over his puppy.

I feel for the guy. This was his hometown(ish) team that drafted him in the first round and now he gets traded away as the organization is FINALLY showing signs of getting its head out of its ass.

Why would you feel bad for him?

His head should have been out of his ass the moment he arrived in the bigs, not in his 5th season. He loved placing blame on O'Brien last year, when the fact of the matter is he was fat and out of shape. His range has diminished the last 5 years, and while he has a very strong arm it always isn't accurate. He can now go play for the man that drafted him.

When somebody has to motivate you, you are never going to be an elite player. Add his history of injuries and the fact that this team has a surplus of power hitters who strike out alot, he was the odd man out. Denorfia/Freel will bring a different demention to this team.

A healthy Edwin should be able to replace Kearn's run production rather easily.

I just heard on 700 WLW that they are not going to keep 14 pitchers on the roster and that its obvious they are going to make more moves. Im wondering what else they can do except get some prospects and call a position player or 2 up. All and all I think its a good move there is no way they were going to do anything with out a bull pen.

Majewski gave up a sac fly to Helton tonight as the first out of the pen to relieve Harang, and Clayton had an RBI and an error in a Reds win. The Reds bullpen didn't give up 5 runs though, and actually won a game 3-1.

Meanwhile, over in Pittsburgh, Lopez and Kearns went a combined 0-7 with 7 LOB, and Lopez recorded an E. Kearns had an outfield assist though, nailing Jack Wilson at home plate. Lopez turned a DP in a Nationals loss.

Day 1: Push.

2-0.

Magic will be fine. He had a blooper and error go against him. Even then he held them in check. He had 3 runs to work with, and left Eddie with an extra run to play with. It was also nice to see Merck have a good appearance.

I don't like Clayton, I would rather start Castro.

Everyday Eddie has looked good in his 3 appearances. 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R. Tiny sample size, but MUCH better then what we were getting. He knows what he is doing.

What I like about Everyday Eddie is that he works very quickly on the mound. As soon as he throws a pitch, he's ready to go with the next one instead of stalling in between Makes it hard for a hitter to try and zone in.

Typical short-sighted trade by a Reds organization that no longer
is smart enough to know what it is doing. You don't trade
young position players for middle relief. Nationals win this
trade easily.

Kind of ironic statement considering you're claiming it's "typical" when the current management has only been at the helm for six months...and the past management with the poor track record is actually the one now running the show in DC.

Does anyone else besides me think this trade might be good for Dunn? Dunn and Kearns have a reputation of doing too much partying together, and im wondering (hoping) that this trade will help Dunn focus more on baseball.

In general im happy with this trade, or at least trusting that Krivsky knows what he's doing. In trades that seem one sided, usually someone knows something that others dont. So far his other moves have worked out pretty well, so im just going to trust that he knows what he's doing.

Majewski is 26 and Bray is 23. Majewski doesn't have a true "out pitch," but does have a sinking fastball that should be good for GABP. Bray was a 1st round pick in 2004 and is the "jewel" of the trade. He has a wicked slider and good control, but also a history of back problems. Both have GB/FB ratios around 1.5 or better, which is an enormous plus in GABP.

So far, in two appearances with the Reds, Majewski has a blown save 5H, 3R, and 3ER in 1.1IP, while Bray looked magnificent in his full inning yesterday. Bray's ERA is recovering from two really bad outing earlier, but he could prove to be a solid pickup.

Heck, even Clayton came through with a huge double today, so it's looking good for the Reds so far.
