Game Thread #7 tOSU 18, Purdue 26 (Oct 17, Noon ET, BTN)

I thought we would come out after halftime and tear it up. Never happened. My question is, how the hell was Purdue only 1-5? They kicked ass yesterday. We were totally caught off guard by how hungry they were.

They were 1-5 because they are usually the team that has all the turnovers, that's 100% why.

Yep. Their turnovers have killed them this year, and even then, they gave us their season average (or close to)- 3 turnovers. That's not something that is going to change. Purdue is simply turnover prone and a bad team, in my opinion. It's 7 games in and they're still turning it over 3+ times a game (now 23 t/o's in 7 games, second worst only to Miami (Oh) w/ 26).

Too bad we gave them 5 back. Ugh. Ugly game.

Next Saturday can't come fast enough.

Read Pryor's telling comments after the game. The Buckeyes thought they would walk all over them and were not prepared for the game.

That's sad that the offense would have such a mentality. They absolutely cannot walk over anyone. I can see why the defense might have thought that way, but the offense, especially TP, should have a chip on their shoulder wanting to prove something.

Sadly, it seems that lately, whenever some kind of streak is at stake for tOSU, they haven't been able to keep that streak alive. IIRC, last year when PSU came it was that tOSU hadn't lost with ESPN's College GameDay in Columbus, or something (anyone else know for sure), of course PSU hadn't won in thirty years, both of those were broken, and with that loss, so was tOSU's shot at 4 striaght outright Big Ten Titles, and this week tOSU was a win away from tying the 17-game Big Ten road winning streak, and fell to Purdue.

Lately it just seems that if ESPN can find a fact that has some kind of streak behind it, and I see it scroll at the bottom, it spells doom for the Buckeyes. Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems that way.

Thankfully, it's game week.

Purdue has been the victim of turnovers and a questionable time out. They could easily be 5-1 with victories over Notre Dame and Oregon. One thing I have learned from watching college football over the years is that ANY team can beat a good team, or even a great team if things go their way. I remember when Michigan State beat us in 1998, Indiana beat us back in the 1980s, and Northwestern beat us in 2004 - but look at teams like USC and Florida who get beat by conference teams often. LSU lost to Kentucky the year they won the NC, last year, Florida lost to Ole Miss. This loss to Purdue looks bad if you look at the win loss records, but if you watched any purdue games (I saw a couple all the way through) they were losing close games to good teams. People have a hard time dealing with this because they are simply not used to losing in conference to anyone but Penn State and scUM, or a team with a good win loss record.

The bottom line is that people have unrealistic expectations of a young team. There are still a lot of issues that need to be addressed, but we really need to see how this team responds to the loss. None of the remaining games on our schedule are unwinnable, but neither is any win a sure thing.

I hear ya. But I don't think what's sitting so badly is simply losing to Purdue. I think what's got everyone so fired up is the way we lost. It was ugly from start to finish and our offense looked very bad. Just saying.

If it had a been a slugfest and both teams played hard and brought their A game, it would be easier to digest. Those games happen. What happened yesterday...was just ugly.

Agreed. I'm just saying that these things DO happen to other teams quite regularly, and that we have been very fortunate not to experience on a regular basis. Did our team play poorly yesterday? Absolutely, but many on here had no respect for Purdue as a team and that was unwarranted in my opinion. Yes, their record was bad and the statistics would seem to have favored us, but as someone wiser than me said once: There are lies, damned lies, and statistics...

Amen, even the last ten points were set up by ugly throws in which Pryor simply threw long and hoped one of his guys caught it. Could have gone either way.

Something is going on. My hunch, for most of the season, has been that Pryor looks like a right handed QB trying to throw with his left hand. And by that analogy I mean that it looks to me like he's been either coached to or on his own trying to "force" himself to be a traditional drop back QB that looks to use his arm to get himself out of trouble instead of his legs.

I mean I notice he seems disappointed to score with his legs. Maybe it's just me.

I'll just say this and this part is not directed at anyone in particular but just to my fellow tOSU fans in general. TP is still a teenager. He has a lot of learning to do and our coaches are doing the best they can with "kids" these are not professional athletes yet.

Also, a lot of you naysayers are embarrassing crybabies. Please go burn your OSU gear and go wear a Gator t-shirt or something. I've sat in the stands and heard you boo Eddie George, Troy Smith, Jim Tressel and everyone else. I've watched you cheer when opponents get hurt. These are just kids. So you know what? Go F yourselves! I don't want to be associated with you. You are not fans, you are bandwagon posers. Go get drunk and abusive somewhere else because I'm sick and tired of your played out crap.

I'm not opposed to criticism, I'm opposed to obnoxious, unruly, crybabies that simply cannot congratulate an opponent, suck up the loss and move on. You left NOTHING on that field, you're just an observer. Get a life and if you can't take losing a game maybe you should stick to a video game and you can hit the reset button every time you're about to lose a game so you can maintain your "perfect" record.

Congrats Purdue, Go Bucks!

x2, well said!
