Game Thread #7 tOSU 18, Purdue 26 (Oct 17, Noon ET, BTN)

Don't know why everyone is worried. This just means we learned from USC.

We lost a game we should have won. Now we'll win the Big10 Championship, head to the Rose Bowl, and destroy whatever Pac10 team we play. Just like USC does.

Rough loss today. We made a 1-5 team look like a top ten team.

I am not going to get into the blame game. You win as a team and you lose as a team.

I will say this, I remember another strong armed mobile quarterback that struggled to learn the offense. A lot of people on this forum including myself wanted him benched. He then proceeded to win a Heismann trophy and take us to two NC games.

Steve Bellisari? I don't know about you, but I wanted to see Tress go with Troy long before he finally made the decision. It took a humiliating beat down in Iowa and even then it wasn't a complete concession that Zwick wasn't the guy.

I hope you're kidding about going to Pasadena, or a BCS bowl for that matter. A competent offensive and defensive opponent will create a score like the 2006 Florida game.

Pasadena may be our best bet... USC is not the team we thought they were when they played in Columbus. Their D-line took a real beating again today against an ordinary ND team. After that we get those Big 10 SEC off sets that put the away team facing a higher ranked team at home.

I don't disagree with what you are saying. I was just thinking out loud that Terrelle has faced very few low pressure situations in his time at tOSU. I don't think he's focused on winning a MNC on every play or game or anything.. just more of a general pressure issue.

Some things can't be coached.

Watching him the last three weeks I've begun to think that if you have his size and speed in High School you come to believe that you don't have to settle for what is there, but can try for the long gain every time. In college someone with his size and speed begins to find that there are guys who can run with him. When you hit the pros you find out that guys as big as Ray Lewis can catch you. I'm sure it's very difficult to make that mental adjustment and begin to play within your limits.

Something is going on. My hunch, for most of the season, has been that Pryor looks like a right handed QB trying to throw with his left hand. And by that analogy I mean that it looks to me like he's been either coached to or on his own trying to "force" himself to be a traditional drop back QB that looks to use his arm to get himself out of trouble instead of his legs.

I mean I notice he seems disappointed to score with his legs. Maybe it's just me.

I'll just say this and this part is not directed at anyone in particular but just to my fellow tOSU fans in general. TP is still a teenager. He has a lot of learning to do and our coaches are doing the best they can with "kids" these are not professional athletes yet.

Also, a lot of you naysayers are embarrassing crybabies. Please go burn your OSU gear and go wear a Gator t-shirt or something. I've sat in the stands and heard you boo Eddie George, Troy Smith, Jim Tressel and everyone else. I've watched you cheer when opponents get hurt. These are just kids. So you know what? Go F yourselves! I don't want to be associated with you. You are not fans, you are bandwagon posers. Go get drunk and abusive somewhere else because I'm sick and tired of your played out crap.

I'm not opposed to criticism, I'm opposed to obnoxious, unruly, crybabies that simply cannot congratulate an opponent, suck up the loss and move on. You left NOTHING on that field, you're just an observer. Get a life and if you can't take losing a game maybe you should stick to a video game and you can hit the reset button every time you're about to lose a game so you can maintain your "perfect" record.

Congrats Purdue, Go Bucks!

Is it safe to come out here yet? :paranoid:

First off, props to the mod for containing the assault of the trolls yesterday. I witnessed a part of it, and I am sure you guys had better things to do on a Saturday afternoon. Thanks!

Second, there has been a lot of talk on the web about the offense since the game, most of it highly emotional and irrational, but some smart discussion on BP.

Ever since the USC game, we have been hearing about offensive changes, esp. with increased play-calling input from Coach Darrell Hazell. Obviously, something is still a-miss. If this game doesn't convince Tress that the O needs an overhaul, then nothing ever will.

So far, the problems listed have been mostly:
1. TP's progress and QB coaching.
2. The O-line's shortcomings and their coaching.
3. Offensive schemes and play-calling.

Basically, the film from yesterday's game and the USC game can be studied by all our future opponents. How much they benefit from it depends on what we change about our offensive performance!

:oh:

Dregs

Okay, the Buckeyes lose to the DREGS of the Big Ten and anyone who makes a negative comment is supposedly unintelligent? The time has come to call it like I see it. Tressel needs to hire an offensive coordinator who can call plays. He also needs to make Pryor a tail back or running back and give Bauserman a chance. There is no valid reason for us to have lost to a team like Purdue. If Pryor doesn't like it then let him tranfer. If Tressel insists on his own play calling then maybe it's time to replace his overpaid as*.

a 6'6, 245 lb RB? A RB that shies away from contact? Can't say I've seen many of those...

You're unintelligent, but it has nothing to do with simply making a negative comment.

1. Suggesting Tressel should be fired is beyond stupid.
2. Purdue is hardly the "dregs" of the B11. Did you not see Indiana and Illinois fighting it out for that "honor?" I'd also say that Purdue is probably on about the same level as Minnesota, Northwestern and Michigan State. If they can manage to hold on to the ball, they'll win some more games this season.

They already lost to 2 of those 3 this year. They maybe end up 3-5 in the Big Ten.

This was a bad team.

But they outplayed the Buckeyes yesterday.

Ouch....that one hurts. Glad we don`t play Michigan State. Minny is coming up.....and I thought we were using these next 3 games to exercise our offensive demons. I love the great conversation and I want to stay positive.....but its time to quit making excuses for the offense. So we are young....well there are plenty of other young teams.....and a lot of qb`s with way less starts than TP.

Many on here were critical of Petey for losing to an unranked team many times.....well guess what now we just got controlled by a 1-5 team that went prevent in the 4th quarter and let us back in the game a little. I had a bad feeling this year when we changed our base offense after 3 games. That means all our work before the season was lost.

I just am lost for words.....we started 4 5star olineman(not to mention a 5 star #1 ranked qb in the nation) today and got whipped by a bunch of 1 and 2 star defensive guys. I guess the first thing I need to do is quit paying attention to recruiting rankings.

How do we beat Iowa and Penn State? I just have so many doubts about our offense. This is like 2004 all over again. Go Bucks

Dude, Purdue is second only to probably Illinois in terms of worst team in the big ten.

What really bothered me about this game was the field goal when down 2 possessions deep in the 4th quarter that left it at a 2 possession game. Four straight to Saine or heck even 4 straight QB sneaks gets that TD, guaranteed. But why kick a field that gets you absolutely no closer to winning the game?
The second thing that bothered me was not taking the lead into half time. You have an offense that cant get out of its own way, a D that is tired and just managed to (again) bail out the offense. 3 straight runs up the gut ends the half, then go in and regroup.

But, all that aside, games like this are going to happen, its never fun when it does, but it reminds the players that they really do need to prepare for each and every game.
