This game will be difficult for me. Some of my oldest memories involve listening to the exploits of the Dayton Flyers. I was given a radio when I was eight or nine years old and my dad built a bookshelf above my bed so I could listen to games played after my bedtime on school nights.

Junior Norris, Don "Monk" Monieke, Bill Uhl, Jim Sallee, Arlin Bockhorn... and of course, Coach Tom Blackburn. Those names were everyday words in my family and among my friends, all the more the surprising because we were all Protestants and the games between Chaminade and my high school, Fairmont, were fueled by barely suppressed religious fervor. But Protestant or Catholic, everyone in Dayton loved the Flyers.

I've lost touch with the team of late, but I'll tell you what, the Buckeyes are lucky this isn't the unfortunate Flyer team of 1962 with Roger Brown and Bill Chimilewski. That team could have given been one of the all-time great teams if they had ever been allowed to compete in the NCAAs.

My heart will be tugged in two directions on Thursday.
Please I am starting to cry.

Re: Was losing to Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament better? Matta said he thought Ohio State was going to be a five seed, but it is possible Ohio State got bumped to a six seed because the committee wanted to avoid a matchup with Michigan State in the second round. And if that's the case, this worked out well for the Buckeyes. They don't have to fly through two different time zones, and they may have avoided the Spartans and Louisville – two teams sure to be trendy Final Four picks. The NCAAreleased the overall seeding order and Ohio State was No. 22. The five seeds were No. 17-20.

Losing to scUM is NEVER better.

When I saw the seeding and bracket that we were put into, I knew it was going to be a hard road to hoe for us. Don't know what sort of game plan that Matta has for his troops. It can only mean that if we can get thru the Flyers and Cuse, the rest of the way should be a confidence factor for sure. But it sure was heart-breaking and sad, to watch Aaron finish the way he did against Michigan in the tournament. That will be a hard one to erase for sure.

You have to play the Big Ten teams in order to lose to them but Dayton did not beat MSU or Wisconsin either not to mention a few others.

I agree. But to beat them, you have to get the game scheduled. Dayton has a really hard time scheduling a home and home with anyone. They had some quality wins this year but the fact is they can't get a decent home game in the non conference. I'm not accusing anyone of dodging anyone though. Wright State makes the same claim about UD dodging them.

The "big-name" non-conference games they have had lately were Alabama and USC. Dayton has a home and home with Georgia Tech as part of Brian Gregory's buy out. Otherwise that would not have happened. Marquette came to UD in 2009. Pitt came into UD Arena at #6 and got spanked by 30 in 2008 I believe. When UD has been able to get a good game scheduled, they have taken care of business more often than not. UD got a fake home and home with Louisville where UD's "home" game was in Cincinnati and UL got half the tix (and UD won both games).

My point about bringing up the Penn State games was that OSU fans shouldn't throw stones at other teams about their bad losses. OSU should not have lost to Penn State twice.
