How are people saying that Diebler "Played like hell"?

He had a defender in his [censored]ing jersey all goddamn game. Pearl gameplanned to take him out of the game, which is why ET had the great stretch in the second. If you watch this back, I'll bet you see as much if not more defensive pressure on Diebs than ET. Problem was, we needed William or david to really step up from the perimeter, but outside of William early and David nailing that big three, they were a non-factor. (Offensively)

Diebs had an excuse, Tennessee played him extremely tight and physical.

I don't agree entirely. If you watch Diebler in the game (first half) you'll see that he spent much of his time standing in one spot outside the 3 point line. His defender didn't have to work at all. I would have expected him to be running off screens all night long to try to wear his defender down and get open looks. By staying fresh in the first half his defender was able to fight through screens in the second half to contest most of his looks.

Just my take. It isn't a knock on Diebler. I just would have liked to have seen a strategy that had him run off of more screens in the first half.

Then blame me. I'm not running from it.

I will ask again: Did Diebler (or Lauderdale) score in the 2nd half? If they did, I missed it. When you only play 5 guys and 2 are off, you are in deep, deep trouble.

I was thinking with around 10 minutes left that if the Bucks were going to win Diebler was going to need to pay out on the 3pt bet. I probably was right.

Well, sh*t....

It wasn't the officiating, there were calls that went both ways and Thad didn't get outcoached. Lighty and Diebler had bad nights and we just couldn't afford both of them having a bad night. UT was a quality opponent that did a great job hustling to every loose ball and really crashed the boards hard. UT showed up tonight, and to that end tOSU did too, but Diebler's and Lighty's shot did not. I feel bad for both, they just had off nights; it happens.

It is times like this that I hate living in TN.....yet you can bet your ass that I will be sporting my tOSU hat tomorrow......it will be an equally good bet that some toothless f*cktard will make some comment tomorrow, likely about SEC dominance or speed or something to that effect.

Ok...really. A loss...deal with it. People did not perform as perfect as expected.

Now get over it...if you cannot, sign off BP and go somewhere to vent.

Bash a player or coach...and yo know the rest.

Warnings over.

C'mon guys....use your brain to discuss without bashing.

And hey you can't win a National Championship every year, reason we lost was because they were just flat out bigger than us. Once again ET played great. But we need to recruit someone around 6-10 - 7ft again. BJ Mullens we really could have used ya.

We were outscored in the paint by 28.

We were outrebounded by 11.

Tennessee had 20 fouls. We had 16.

Blaming the refs for this one doesn't stand up to the numbers. We just got beat...barely.

I reject the notion you can merely look at the sheer number of fouls called on each side and determine that poor officiating did not play into the outcome of a game. If a player is called for a foul he did not commit, it's still a bad call regardless of how many legitimate foul calls may have been made on the other side of the ball. And many of the bad calls occurred at entirely inopportune, game-changing moments. The phantom call on Diebs towards the end of the game when he seemingly had a clean steal that would have led to a layup and, I believe, a 5 point lead is a prime example, especially when considered against the no-call on the Tennessee defender that resulted in a steal of Turner's dribble the very next time down the floor.

I'm not sure why it is controversial to say both that we got outplayed and got screwed by the refs. We've won games during the course of this season in which we were outplayed, and we very well could have won this game in spite of the woes down low and of some of our key players. But I do feel that that opportunity was snuffed out by poor officiating. Had we played better, it might not have mattered. But we still should have had the opportunity.

Diebs looks were not open in the second half. His airballs were on looks off of screens, but the defender came over the screens and really got into his zone.

He didn't have his usual, out of this world unconscious game. But "played like hell" he did not. As much as I want to kill every member of Tennessee's team at the moment, it was a solid, physical effort turned in by their defense, and it really affected the perimeter game.

This one is gonna hurt for awhile.

Good point about Mullens.

Somebody else pointed to the lack of inside presence as being a Matta hallmark. Well, the Buckeyes have had three straight one-and-dones at center before this season. That's gonna make it difficult to maintain sufficient talent and depth at the position.

 no comment, I dont want to get banned for bashing former buckeyes in a current game thread
I really think we would have won the game if we had him, not a bash on our centers at all they are fine players, but he would have scored more than both of them combined and would have cleaned up the rebound mess, he would have improved from last year.
