5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

the rule has to be there why? when you consider how much money these players bring in and the money that others make off of them it is unfair.

in no way do i think it is an easy fix, but the rules need to be reevaluated to make the system more fair for all parties involved - not just people at the top.
I agree with you that they could very well re-evaluate the whole process. The NCAA demonstrates time and time again it's a fuckin joke.

But, I do not agree that players have any entitlement to "millions" and I could give a rats ass about if it's "fair" to them or not. Life isn't fair. There are dues which get paid. Winning the lottery of becoming a professional football player (the true goal, right?) comes with it dues. And for those who do not make it in the NFL? An education. I'm still paying for mine. It's worth quite a bit.

..... and I didn't even ask anyone to provide me with a football field and a bright stage in which to audition for the NFL

I'm hoping all of this is a true blessing in disguise.

Man would I have loved for Braxton to get a full year to work without burning a year of eligibility, but I honestly feel like he's going to do great things at tOSU. Maybe break those records TP might not reach (at this point).

I should say - these guys should have known enough to know if they wanted to do this, they should have checked with the compliance people. It was stupid of them not to inquire, and it's a reasonable conclusion for people to believe they damn well knew what the answer would be and weren't seeking approval, but rather - trying to avoid detection (and not coming forward sooner, despite opportunity to do so is evidence of this). For that, some degree of penalty is warranted. I do not believe 5 games is warranted. And, frankly, I do not understand how in the hell they are eligible for the Sugar Bowl. I'm glad they are, but it seems like more NCAA magic to me. Not like Cecil/Cam Newton magic... but made up bullshit nonetheless.

I for one am not glad. I'd rather them be suspended for the Sugar Bowl. They have lost the right to play in this game in my book. Especially knowing that they did something wrong, and not coming forward. Let the players who have done it the right way and EARNED the privlege of wearing the Scarlet and Grey play in this game. These suspended players have lost that right in my opinion.

Not an unreasonable view.

I'll be frank, I'm more interested in winning than if these guys tried to make a couple bucks off their names. I do, of course, have my limits (I wouldn't excuse Pryor if he was under Cam Newton sort of allegations, for example) but this incident doesn't approach it for me. Thankfully, I am just a fan and can hold this view without it being any comment on how Ohio State conducts its business.

i believe most players would disagree with that idea of not being entitled to millions when their efforts have a major role in the generation of profits for the institution. and i believe most people would also feel that way if they saw others making money off of them without receiving proper compensation. in less you believe that guys like a.j. green and pryor who help to bring in millions of dollars are adequately compensated for by receiving an education that cost $25,000-30,000/year?

and i realize life is not fair. but that is no reason not reevaluate how the system functions in an attempt to address its flaws.

i also just want to make clear i agree with you that a free education is a big deal and cannot be overlooked in terms of its value and importance. i don't want to minimize that at all, i just think looking at everything as a whole it doesn't go far enough when you consider how much money is involved in college football and basketball.
