5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

I wonder if the staff won't give Shugarts a shot at LT and let Norwell stick at his more natural position of RT... lets Marcus Hall stay at guard as well. Who knows, this just hit, plenty of time to figure it out and the staff will have our best guys out there in their best positions.

It's not like we're playing tomorrow  Plenty of time to figure that one out. Mewhort and Hall at the guards.

I think the staff is still figuring out how to divide the snaps at QB for Spring Ball and August camp. And I just remember that we don't have a WR coach!!!

my thoughts:

1) these players get suspended for making a profit off of their accomplishments. yet the ncaa makes sure they are eligible for the bowl game so that their profits are not impacted. wow, what a way to make a statement. so essentially the ncaa can make decisions to cover its own interests but will penalize others from doing the same.

2) i realize that these players get a quality education for free, which is absolutely a big deal. but when you bring in millions of dollars for your school and other people (businesses and schools) can profit off of your name but you can't that is just unfair and clear exploitation.
The rule has to be there. But, there appears to me to have been a lack of discretion by the NCAA. 5 games? Seriously? 5 games for breaking this by law when only weeks ago it declared Newton eligible after a couple hour lay off where his eligibility was at issue on allegations of pay for play schemes?

Absurd.

I agree with Gator's position on what the NCAA actually did in that decision. But - fact remains - Newton should have been on the pine as soon as his eligibility was at issue. He was NOT made to sit.

A kid at USC is made to sit for 4 days (one of which is a game day) while the NCAA figures out if a golf cart ride is a violation. Newton.. amid (again) PAY FOR PLAY allegations... sits how long? An hour? A day?

Rule has to be there because if it's not, things could get out of hand. But, the NCAA needs to have better discretion and consistently if they expect to be taken seriously as any kind of governing body.

I think we all need to take a meltdown lesson from ShaggyBevo. I've found it's easier to poke fun than tragically collapse.

Too soon?

It's been a lousy day, but that's funny to me.

Troy shouldn't have been allowed back in 06?

Yeah what can't be overlooked here is the fact that these guys weren't even as far along in their Buckeye careers when they sold said merchandise, they sold their stuff from their freshmen season it just isn't coming out until now. It's completely within the realm of reason that they didn't have the same appreciation for what they earned back then as they do now. Pryor off handedly admitted going into this season that he didn't have the right attitude coming into his first 2 years at Ohio State.

Pryor being forced to pay back 2,500 suggests he only got that for the ring AND the pants and whatever else?

Looks like he got ripped off:

I say Norwell, since Shugarts at right.
I say between Sugarts, Norwell and Marcus Hall, we will be fine. Seriously guys, it sucks because of what these players did, but THE Ohio State will be fine when it takes the field...Between Braxton, Guiton, and Graham, the QB situation is in good shape.

:oh:

Anyone think we have any shot at getting it reduced?

I dont know if we have any chance at all. I'm praying they bring to down to 4 but would love to see it come down to 3 games.
Smith said they were going to appeal. I don't know what might happen in terms of result, but I'm sure Ohio State will be making its strongest case in terms of mitigation.

Public perception (which I'm guessing, from stuff I've read on here) seems to be that this punishment exceeds the nature of the violation. So... who knows....

the rule has to be there why? when you consider how much money these players bring in and the money that others make off of them it is unfair.

in no way do i think it is an easy fix, but the rules need to be reevaluated to make the system more fair for all parties involved - not just people at the top.

Why does it say "FUN" on the side of the ring?

It should say "Not For Sale"

"Fierce Urgency of Now", was the tagline for the 2008 season that Tress stole from Obama. Basically meant for the seniors who were going into that year with all that the expectations and only one more chance to win it all (after the previous 2 title games).
