#4 Ohio State 78, Purdue 60 (Final)

Your back, where have you been?

I started law school in the fall, so not surprisingly I've had less time to post. However, I'm so grateful to BuckeyePlanet because, now that I live in Chicago and not Columbus, it's my best source (along with rivals) for Buckeye info. Just wish more of the games were on out here . . .

As for our 3pt. defense, one might initially think teams have to shoot more 3's with Oden back there. Of course, that might lead to more points allowed via the 3, but it should actually hurt their percentage if they go in with the mindset they have to jack up outside shots to beat us... Really, there's no excuse for allowing that sort of percentage with the eraser in the paint. Jamar, Ron, Mike, David and even (gulp) Daquean should be up tight on their man, not allowing open perimeter shots. Hopefully this is a symptom of youth that Thad will address as this season comes to a close...

Boilers face big challenge at home against Buckeyes

By Stacy Clardie

The Journal Gazette

It makes sense when a team gears up to play Ohio State that much of the talk is focused on 7-foot freshman Greg Oden.
And certainly Purdue coach Matt Painter is concerned about how his personnel will match up with Oden ? as in, the Boilermakers don?t have size to do it ? when the Buckeyes play tonight in West Lafayette.

OHIO STATE BASKETBALL
Heavy hearts big factor tonight
Oden, Hunter try to cope with deaths of loved ones
Wednesday, January 31, 2007
Bob Baptist
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

It was a challenging week for the Ohio State men?s basketball team before death arrived to make everything else seem trivial. The small matter of a game, however, is something the Buckeyes must confront tonight.
Four days after the deaths of a best friend and a beloved grandfather, Greg Oden and Othello Hunter are expected to be in the lineup when fifth-ranked Ohio State plays at Purdue.
"I?m interested to see how they come out and play," coach Thad Matta said yesterday. "When they?re younger and going through this for the first time, it can take a toll."
