360 "Red Ring of Death?" Don't sweat it, it's on Microsoft!

Beings all of the stock sales came after the issues became public, I'm not sure how this would be "insider info" fraud.
Well not quite - he was selling two months before the hit to M-Softs bottom line of $1.15 Billion with the extended warranty became public knowledge.

The real dud in the story, and the reason why it will not have legs in my view, is because the stock market looked at the announced $1.15 Billion charge (most of which will be in 2008 I think) and went - "so what."

Will the rechargeable batteries last as long or close to as long as an Energizer or Duracell? After the original alkalines burned out that came with the controllers, I've been replacing with Energizer/Duracell, they still seem to die out pretty quick. I've probably replaced the batteries in each of my controllers 3-4 times and I only play the Wii at friend's houses :( I like everything you can do with the Wiimote, but I really would have liked it if Nintendo allowed you to recharge the controllers at the console like with the PS3, that way I can keep playing without buying more batteries or waiting for rechargeables to charge. Maybe Nintendo will release a charger that will connect through the nunchuck port, that would be nice.

If you do ever get the DRE errors on your old PS2, Dryden, let me know. I can send you the info on how to get it fixed for free, I'm amazed its running so well for you. I always took care of my system, eventually the DREs got to be more and more numerous. I would occasionally open the system up and clean the laser's lense with some alcohol, this would clear things up for awhile, eventually the problems would come back and this cleaning no longer worked. I cleaned PS2s for friends and family as well that had the same problems, they had later models though.

The green rechargeable Energizers are fucking awesome. I use them in everything. All my kids toys, my wireless mouse, cameras, anything that needs a battery. I have found nothing that beats them.

OK, so I have known for a while that my 360 was minorly problematic, getting some slow-down and such during a few games, but it was never anything I couldn't play through. This past weekend I put my brother's Mass Effect disc into the system to check it out, and my system made a nasty grinding noise and froze up, but I never got the 3 red lights. So I popped my Assassin's Creed disc in and it started up just fine. Then I tried my COD4 game (which hadn't been opened) and it did the same thing as the ME disc, again, still no red lights.

So frustrated, I researched the issue online and determined that it was likely an issue with washer in my DVD drive being loose, as I had an early system with the hitatchi DVD drive. So I followed the instructions I found and took my system apart, since the absence of red lights meant I would have to pay for it's repair. When I finally took the DVD drive apart, I realized that I didn't have a loose washer, so I was unable to fix my DVD drive with that solution.

So then I tried my AC disc again and it started fine. Then I tried the COD4 game, and despite some grinding noise, it started and got to the menu screen. Then it froze up and I finally got that damned 3 light error, and now the thing won't work at all and I'll have to pay to get it repaired since I opened it up.

I went out and bought a new arcade console system, but if anyone knows an easy way that I could replace the DVD drive in my old 360 I'd appreciate it. I don't want to mod the system or anything, maybe just replace the drive and give the system to a family member or something. I don't want to put more than $75 or so into it's replacement.

No reason not to go PS3 anymore.. :wink2: fanboi here
I actually got one of those recently too, the 80 gig version. My wife's work has a spirit rewards program, kind of like credit card points, where they get spirit points for providing excellent work. She had enough to get some jewelry, the PS3 and Rockband (PS3 version) so we cashed them in. It likely would have taken her another year or 2 to get enough for a nice TV (which was our alternative plan).

Also, all of my old games are for the 360, and that system is in the basement (where I can play it at all hours, and can play violent games on it) so I needed a replacement. The PS3 and the Wii are in the great room, and we try to get only family oriented games for those systems, so that the kids can play or watch them.

I got mine in June 2006.

It actually lasted longer than I thought it would; considering it was made within the first year of the 360 release.
Do you know what the current policy is regarding replacement due to the RRoD? I'm sure I don't have my receipt anymore so if my 360 crashes tomorrow do you think I have a good chance of getting a third one for free?
