a few quick things
looks like the team who scored more won the game (my predictions are unrealy, think i can get vegas to set up a line? or should i try and get that factored into the bcs formula?)
pregame festivities. lets just see the only people less prepared today than odot was the staff at theosu. i walked in just before tip, no salt, no plowing, no shoveling etc. by the time i left the snow was suffciently dealt with, though lets be honest it could have been much better.
pregame attitudes. odd that i was the only one who had potential issues with this game, i believe we didnt see the best effort.
start time? 7? or was the tip more like 720?
attendance, i swear i heard someone say 18,xxx? no way, no way, no way...
conley, i believe he was a foul short of filling up every box in the box score? played a very solid game.
oden, enjoy every moment of the kid. not his best night, picked up 2 fouls again in the first half and picked up the third early in the 2nd half. played a good game. i didnt see the travel, but i didnt have the ben of tivo/replay...
harris, sturggled. couldnt find his stroke and worse couldnt find his defensive game. one of his worst games of the year. that being said, new ivan over old ivan everyday of the week
lighty, how many mins did he play? limited id say only 5? that being said he was efficient with his minutes. he had his turnover when he bobbled the ball setting for his shot, then rushed himself, forced himself inot the lane and out of control went to the basket. with time he will learn to not let one mistake compound (or maybe more approp tonight snowball)
cook, dropped 8 quick ones then slide off into oblvion until needed down the stretch run. cook made a great play in the 221 press to create a turnover.
twig, stole some serious mins when oden got his third foul. i believe he played a shade over 8 mins with hunter and those two held fast holding the intial spread of 4. also when he played in the first the team went on a mini spurt. played his role very nice tonight, though committed 3 fouls and in doing so, alarmed me. this could be a potential issue. matt needs to be a little less aggresive and play smart ball as he steals minutes.
butler, his ft shooting down the stretch again critical. i have come to expect things out of jamar that are, solid play, nice defense, good effort, his ft shooting and his ability to hit big shots to stop runs. once again played his role of leader and elder very well.
lewis, struggled with his shot from the floor. though knocked down 3 of 4 from the line and hit a big 3 as his only fg. had some more intensity tonight than we have been seeing out of him, but still lapses on the defensive end of the floor. something you shouldnt expect from an upper classman.
othello hunter, o eats space. its that simple, he allows other players to be better. to many this is not obvious, but the things that a guy like hunter allow his coaches and team to do cannot be quantified. he didnt play all that well offensively tonight, but his role will never be to score points. keep people honest, attack the rebounds and rebound the ball. when hunter gets the ball hes taking it back up, something i like to see. on the defensive end of the floor i think you can see what an impact he has. oden/hunter own the lane when they are paired at the 4/5. its hard for me to explain or quantifly the value of a guy like othello come march...
other stuff
did i see two flex sets tonight? once im sure of, once butler and lewis both went to the same spot so im not for sure, but i thought i saw it.
matta's sleeve. ive sensed 2 things up his sleeve. ill call them tournament time cards...
more on the tourney, the tournament is a whole different ball game in b10 play teams have each other scouted out to the extent they know which shoe they put on first, nothing is a secret. it is kind of like that come tourney time, but with only a few days to prepare for your thurs/fri game and usually 48 hours or so for the sat/sun scouting and getting your players aware of such situations, sets, players etc is challenging and limited. teams will be able to key in on the bread and butter sets, and foucus on 2 maybe three players. from there it is guys 3?, 4, 5, 6 who can make big impacts in march. think brian brown in 99. he stepped inot a starting role in march to be a catalyst for a nice run. who/which guy(s) are going to do that? it should be interesting
cheerleaders, who invited prince to be a cheerleader? i had never noticed that guy before. also did anyone else notice the girl who twice ran away puked in a trash can and carried on... my game mvp.
erin andrews, see rr
overall impression, the team came out flat, be it that the game started later than scheduled, the weather, looking ahead, three tough games in a row. or something else at a certain point that cant happen. the season is quickly approaching the point were the season is defined in one and done situations. its time to start treating every game like a tourney game...
