25 years ago today, John Lennon was killed.

Dakota by O.A.R....

Marc Roberge wrote it in memory of John.

I had a dream about you
It was December in the afternoon
You're something pretty and cool
Signing records as you're passing through

You saw everyone as an angel
But what about the thieves?
Who don't know what do
And don't know who to be
You saw everyone as an angel
But what about the thief?
Who took away from you
He took away from you

If you just kept walking on your way
If you just kept walking on your way
If you just kept walking on, walking on, walking on your way

Behind the archway lies a thief
Awaiting double fantasy
He's something evil underneath
Outside Dakota died the symphony

I think everyone has a devil waiting in the wings
When you don't know what to do
And you don't know who to be
You saw everyone as an angel
But what about the thief?
Who took away from you
Took away from you

If you just kept walking on your way
If you just kept walking on your way
If you just kept walking on, walking on, walking on your way

Maybe this is just a nightmare
And I will wake up
We all will wake up
Maybe this is just a nightmare
December afternoon they took away from you

If you just kept walking on your way
If you just kept walking on your way
If you just kept walking on, walking on, walking on your way
Just walking on your way
Just walk on

It may have been the most important thing Howard Cosell ever did. Announcing the death of John Lennon on Monday night football. The two were friends and Lennon sat in the booth for one game to learn the sport from Howard.

I've never been a Beatles fan. But I have a lot of respect for Lennon and McCartney. Lennon was the brightest of the bunch.

I remember watching Monday night football in my dorm room in Taylor Tower when Cosell made the announcement. They was just one of my roommates and me watching the game, but with the announcement we had upwards of 20-30 people in the room. Never heard a dorm hall so quiet......

not to be crass but John Lennon died the minute he met that hag Yoko...

You sure got that right.

I know the guy was a great musician, but what's the big deal about it being 25 years since he died? How many of us mourned when Isaac Stern died? Come on, people. It's just music.

Now, the 25th anniversary of Woody's death will be something different altogether.

How is it different? Football is not more important than music.
Even though I don't like the Beatles or Lennon, their music influenced thousands upon thousands of people throughout the world. He deserves to be recognized.

no band/musician has influenced mainstream culture more that The Beatles.... maybe Elvis. His music still influences people today. His death comes up as news every year but this just happens to be the 25 year.
