#25 Ohio State 85, Belmont 75 (Final)

- Why did Mayes see so few minutes? Anybody?

When Sylk went in for Butler early in the second half, he had a couple bad miscues on defense. In the next time out (I think), he pretty much got chewed the f*ck out by Matta, who later backed off and asked Mayes if he was ready to play - trying to fire him up. Evidently Mayes' response was not to Matta's liking, and he sat the rest of the game. Matt Sylvester sat most of the second half as well, after a good start offensively, for poor defense. Hopefully they will both be sufficiently motivated to improve come Saturday.

you're right, sylvester did take some boneheaded shots last year against illinois. Can you give it a rest? The guy throws up anything, sometimes they fall, sometimes they don't. Does he have to throw up 5 straight airballs before you will admit this?

1. That won't happen. When he's not 'on', he doesn't press the issue. He missed a few shots last night after drilling his first two, and he backed off. He's not Tony Stockman.

2. It was implied that he's a liability on offense, and that's wholly inaccurate. Just felt like I had to point that out.

Jimotis, if you're looking for someone to question Ed Hightower's officiating ability or his impartiality, look no further. I personally think he's terrible, have thought so for years. I didn't get to watch much of the game last night but I will. If Hightower called his usual uneven, inconsistant game, it will show up.
hightower didnt do the game last night.

jim burr, higgins and i think it was zelton steed did it.

I think lewis was big in this game. Sullinger was the clear mvp, but lewis gave us life out of the halfcourt set late in the game.

I like the spark that Lewis gives us off the bench, but I wonder how much longer Matta will keep starting Sylvester over him. Sylvester has looked really good at times in the past, but he's struggled a bit so far this year. And I've liked Lewis's game since I first saw him play this summer in the Worthington summer league. He has not disappointed one bit in his first few games here.

It seems that people are a bit down on the team after last night's game (and I agree that the free throw shooting has got to improve), but you've got to give Belmont some credit -- they hit a lot of their shots and came up with a lot of loose balls. I think last night was another good win.

Right you are Jim. And I cannot complain about a referee if he wasn't even there. I have watched a little of the game this afternoon and so far it wasn't badly officiated at all.

It's hard to know from the stands how good/bad the officiating is, but it sure seemed like a majority of calls went in Belmont's favor, especially towards the end of the game.

Just to satisfy my curiousity, was it a good call when the Belmont player was fouled shooting a three? Same for the push-off against Lewis? They both seemed iffy to me, but I didn't have the benefit of any replay...

I thought I saw him chew out Mayes, but I wasn't positive so I didn't say it...tivo would have been handy for a rewind but I was live.
