'21 VA C Efton Reid (LSU Verbal)

Efton committing on April 15th.
OSU, Pitt, and NC State seem to be the finalists.

Pitt has most of the buzz right now but there isn't much buzz yet.

2021 5-Star Center Efton Reid Sets Decision Date

While no favorites have been publicly revealed, PSN has been told for some time that three teams very high on Reid’s list were Pitt, Ohio State and Virginia.

Last week, Rivals Jamie Shaw created a buzz when he announced that he was forecasting Reid to commit to Pitt. Following that tweet from Shaw, a basketball insider told PSN that he was “very hopeful and optimistic” that Reid was coming to Pitt.

However, here's an article that lists a different finalist list: https://scarletandgame.com/2021/04/03/ohio-state-basketball-chris-holtmann-land-five-star-center/

Reid has a top four of Virginia, NC State, Florida State, and Ohio State. The Buckeyes are the only program that isn’t in the south. This would be a great find for Holtmann and would make Ohio State a top-three team in the Big Ten in 2021.

OSU and Pitt are the two biggest constants.

Not liking what I am hearing from UVa insiders about what Reid's circle wants for him. Sounds like their sole priority is for Reid to be featured as much as possible in the offense so he can make a quick jump to a professional contract.

This may be where the Pitt pitch is coming in hot. They've already lost their two best offensive players to transfer and don't have much else besides, they can promise Reid all the touches he can handle.

Almost feels like a Vonn Bell situation in terms of a big opportunity to take the next step as a roster....especially considering we specifically need a big man. Holt has done a good job so far recruiting but this is a chance to go up a level.

I am not sure Reid helps us go up a level. Offensive potential is good but pretty sure he'd hurt more than help on D next season, and team offense-wise he might clog the lane a bit.

I honestly believe a good transfer like Fox, Santos-Silva, or Harrar would probably help more overall next season. Could be wrong and maybe Reid has a Dickinson-esque freshman season, but I just kind of doubt it from what I've seen and read about where his game is at right now. I'd feel very different if I thought we'd get more than one season from Reid, but sounds like he is pretty determined to be one-and-done, regardless of whether he has to go overseas to do it. Of course, plans can change, though.

But even two and done gives you the downside of making it more difficult to get a 2022 big, which I think we really need.

a good transfer like Fox, Santos-Silva, or Harrar
Not sure who you are referring to with regard to Fox so I cannot address how he might help. Santos-Silva from what I have read is only about 6'7" so I cannot see him helping that much in the Big Ten. I have not seen him play so maybe he plays bigger than his size.

I am not a big fan of Harrar. Do not think that he is that mobile. Reminds me of a big stiff. Talk about clogging the lane I think that is about all he is good for. Maybe I am wrong but I have seen him play.

I am uncertain about Reid. The one thing that they say is you cannot teach 7' so there is that. I guess I would have to watch more video of him to make a judgment. However, saying that I would not be surprised to see him end up at UVA.

I am somewhat of a fan of Myles Johnson from Rutgers. He Is in the portal but I do not know if we are looking at him or not. He certainly would help defensively if nothing else.

I don't see Harrar as a stiff. Beg to differ, I guess.

Parker Fox is a D2 transfer that OSU and a slew of other D1 teams have contacted. Plays in Minnesota and he is expected to decide between Minny, OSU, and Creighton. 6'8 PF, very high level athlete, put up huge numbers as he was just overwhelming his competition at that level with his strength, motor, and athleticism. Blocked a ton of shots, averaged something like 23 and 9 or something crazy. Grew up a Gopher fan, though.

Santos-Silva is 6'7 but long and strong and played very good interior defense for Beard at Texas Tech. Good enough to be a starter for them. Good on the glass, too.

I don't think Reid is going to UVa. Their fans and insiders ruled him out a while ago. Says it is not a fit. They think it will be Pitt or OSU and anyone who tries to pick seems to be picking Pitt to get him.

Myles Johnson would be good but he is looking at some specific academic programs closer to home on the West Coast.
