2026 tOSU Offense Discussion

Returning the entire OL is more of a concern than a net positive imo.

Also, what do we think we have in Bowen now that he’s got a full cycle in with us?
I hear you on that lol. We would be best suited to do something that enabled Austin to move back to RG. The interior of the OL will be among the best if we can do that. Problem is what to do at OT.

This team is set up to have a very potent offense. Have to do something to ensure Julian has time to throw. Not sure if that means Ian Moore starts at OT or if that means you go get two starters at OT in the portal.

If I’m being honest you go get a can’t miss OT and put him at LT. Then Moore is your starting RT.

Not worried at all about skill positions. Sayin will be more than fine now that he has experience. Bo Jackson was WAY better than I thought he'd be considering he's a true freshman. Thought Isiah West looked good as well. Jeremiah is still a space alien.

Absolutely worried the most about OL though. They were the most veteran group returning if I recall and they got demolished by every good DL they played. By far the unit with the most question marks heading into next season.

The entire offensive mentality needs overhauled. I assume that comes with a new veteran OC, need a slam dunk hire.

The “limit possessions,” slow, plodding, lack of explosion deal on offense needs to be thrown in the trash can. It only ever made sense if they were doing it to keep them fresh and would turn it up when the time came. That was the bill of goods we were sold.

Turns out it was all BS. So… what was the actual reason for lack of explosives with this talent? What was the reason for playing so miserably slow and limiting your possessions so severely? These are all questions that need answered, and addressed, and I presume a new playcaller will be the first domino to addressing them.

I think the explosive plays were limited by Sayin. Alot of explosive plays came from the crossing routes which seems out of the offense. I think it's because Sayin doesn't see the middle of the field well because of his height.

The other part is Sayin is extremely safe with the ball. I'm not sure we have seen a QB that rather take the shorter pass than the more risky deep pass at this level at Ohio State since Day has been HC. His risk assessment is off for the talent we have at WR. If we had average WR talent he might be warranted to take these kind of throws. Our WRs talent change the calculus on how risky a throw is. Will Howard basically understood that and said it in interviews.

The wow plays by our WRs definitely went down this season because Sayin is only throwing to receivers that are very open. He doesn't like throwing to a WR that has to make a contested catch.

It’s not as big a concern if Ian Moore can start and Siereveld can move to RT or RG. Daniels has to slide to RG and they need to find another OT in the portal.

A lineup of

LT: Moore
LG: Montgomery
C: Hinzman/Padilla
RG: Siereveld/Hinzman/Daniels
RT: Siereveld/ Transfers

would be much better, IMO.

90 years of beautiful tradition from Charles Csuri to Orlando Pace, and we can't unfuck our OL problems. Throw a boatload of cash at the Iowa guy provided he's not nearing retirement and give him all the NIL money he needs.

Miami and Texas Tech were the two possible opponents that worried me the most, and those worries came true. Now fix it. We all thought that Alford leaving would solve everything, but that clearly isn't the key.

I’m not following…what did Alford have to do with the OL?

I'm not sold on Bowen. He's done well as a recruiter, but I didn't see any development or significant run game designs. I also can't remember the last time OSU had an OL coach that more than 50% of the fanbase liked. It's gone Bollman > Wariner > Studrawa > Frye > Bowen. Bollman staying on for more than 5 years never made sense to me, Wariner and Frye could develop but either couldn't recruit, or wouldn't cast a wide net. It seemed like Stud could land a few big talents and struggled badly to have more than 2-3 guys commit each year.

I don't think this is a problem unique to OSU. If I've learned anything from watching football, it's that every fanbase wants to fire their OL coach every year, whether it's college or NFL. It has to be the hardest position to coach, with a longer development timeframe, and finding the right combo of 5 guys that have to play as one.

Part of the equation was just taking a greater number of more talented guys. They've started doing that. Now they need Bowen to earn his paycheck when it comes to development.
