Gave up only 146 yards of offense today. If not for the pick 6 and the fumble by Sayin they score only 7.
Take it a step further and if they just don’t rough the passer on a moronic play by Atkinson and it’s a shut out.
Defense has played well the last 2 weeks
Well they're already a Top 5 unit according to college football stats so they've arrived early! Not sure they'll ever be dominant but I think they'll still be very good. Will absolutely be a lights out unit next year though.Ironically feeling better about my prediction about this unit being a Top 5 defense come the end of the year. Hell they will have a shot at being the best when it’s all said and done. Had a feeling they’d get exposed like 2024 did against Oregon before Day forced Knowles to play defense like a sane person. They held up though for three quarters against one of the most talented offenses in the country. Think this will be a dominant unit by the end of the year.
That’s the part we have to stop. If the bucks just don’t spot teams extra yards or possessions with penalties or turn the ball over they’ll be very difficult to just out play.BULLETS LOOK PRIMED FOR BLOOMINGTON
Make no mistake, Maryland isn't an offensive juggernaut but I feel like Matt Patricia's unit - minus the penalties - played very well yesterday and seems primed for next weekend's challenge of beating Curt Cignetti's squad in Bloomington.
The defensive line's apparently found something, keyed by the emergence of Eddrick Houston and Qua Russaw, that's made the linebackers look a lot better than they did earlier in the season now that they have some room to read/react, and the secondary has been the defense's strength all season.
Yesterday, Ohio State held the Terps to 146 total yards and limited the nation's 28th-ranked passing offense (277 ypg) to 64 yards and just 12 completions.
Maryland couldn't run it either, averaging 2.9 yards per carry and the Buckeyes held the Terps to 3-for-12 on third down conversion tries. The Bullets kept the lid on the Terps all day with Maryland tallying just two plays over 10 yards - a pair of 13 yard runs - across 53 total snaps.
Even more impressive, Ohio State held the Terps to 22 yards or less on 11 of 12 possessions. The lone drive of more than 22 yards was the 75-yard scoring march aided by four OSU penalties (30 yards).
This defense still looks like a work in progress but even so, it appears ready to face an Indiana offense averaging 40.2 points per game (No. 14) and 462.7 yards of total offense (No. 20).
That’s just about any football team ever ever….That’s the part we have to stop. If the bucks just don’t spot teams extra yards or possessions with penalties or turn the ball over they’ll be very difficult to just out play.
That's one of the strengths of Indiana. They are a well disciplined team that rarely defeats themselves. We need to get discipline back on both sides of the ball. Indy maximizes on other teams mistakes. We can't afford to help them out on Saturday. That’s the part we have to stop. They’re exactly who I’m talking about. They just don’t beat themselves and they make the routine plays. That's one of the strengths of Indiana. We can't afford to help them out on Saturday.
