2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

what would the SEC lose by moving away from the NCAA? how has the NCAA helped them, other than to try and institute rules to maintain fairness and parity. and it seems to me that fairness and parity aren't really what the SEC is all about, at least in the last 2 decades.

Just thinking from a tv contract perspective.

SEC alone vs B1G and the rest of the current NCAA.

SEC goes first and the B1G gets to play the middle on both them and the NCAA/rest of CFB.

I think the big breakaway/death of the NCAA is very near but it will likely be the B1G and the SEC together.

Say the SEC does start to break away. But the Big Ten hesitates. Do any teams in the Big Ten leave to join the rebels, or is conference loyalty high enough that schools would rather stay in the Big Ten?
This is kind of an “unknown” at this point….to date, the Big 10 hasn’t really given a shit about TV contracts and the $$$ coming in from football, like the SEC is hyper-focused on.

The Big 10, through its AAU collaboration (research institutions….not the AAU for HS athletes) has generated so much $$$ in grants it has dwarfed TV $$$.

I think the wild card here is a focus by federal gov’t to reduce spend on universities. I’m curious how this will impact funding of associations like the AAU. This is not a political post, as I don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other on how federal dollars should be spent on things like AAU.

It’s definitely something to watch though,,..,a decrease in grant funding is a negative for the Big 10 in terms of leverage it currently holds over the SEC (and all other conferences).

Much as I want to see Michigan castrated, it leaves the Big Ten with 1.5 programs with a shot at a Natty. Maybe USC will recover. TV isn’t going to be excited by conference race between the Bucks and a neutered Michigan.
CFB and the B1G survived just fine while Michigan was poo poo garbage for 20 years. And that was without USC and Oregon.

Ohio State fans will watch Ohio State. And that's worth enough on it's own. It doesn't matter if Michigan is neutered. If they get death penalty level sanctions, ield the worst team in the country year after year and their entire non-alumi TV fan base drops them entirely, Ohio State fans will tune in to watch the Buckeyes tap-dance on their corpse.

And even if I were wrong and no one tuned in, just finally give Penn State what they want, declare them our biggest rival and schedule them annually the last game of the season in prime time.

Or better yet, that same agreement with Notre Dame.
