2025 Fall Camp and Other Tidbits

So far I like what I hear.

People have said a ton of great things about the OL depth but from the sounds of it our DL has given the OL some headaches. They’ve talked about how it’s a battle with sometimes the OL getting the best of them etc so that’s great to hear.

Also great to hear that this secondary is really really good. To the point where there’s not much there down the field and that’s lead to a ton of shorter throws for the QB.

I think the scheme is different enough on defense that it’s been tough for the offense to matchup up. Like it’s been mentioned there’s some experience on defense but should also be noted that the personnel packages (and better utilizing some other players) has got to be tough for the offense.

For example, throwing Downs at nickel, Hicks off the edge, Styles blitzing, Reese coming off the edge, and then obviously the rush men looks. That’s a lot of velocity and speed out there. This defense while not as experienced as last years seems to be more dynamic. There’s no substitute for speed.

Watched the B10 show at tOSU for spring practice last evening. Saw the usual platitudes from Dinardo etc, and watched Jake Butts, he of Pickerington and Xichigan fame (?). Impressed by the young man, as he threw out some positive things about the Buckeyes, and not once did he toss any grenades about recent Xichigan success. The big take-away, to me at least, was that the three OL position coaches are having a very positive impact on the OL play this year. Happy to hear that. Though was sad to see the camera was focused on Sayin and Keinholtz, and nary a shot of Tavian....Also liked to hear the B10 announcers that noticed the intensity of practice this early in the year. Go Bucks!

I reluctantly also agree about Jake. And, my reluctance is based entirely on a bad decision he made with his choice of college. He seems to take his new career seriously and wants to do a good job as an analyst, vs. simply stoking flames or whatever the hell it is they prefer their "talent" do over at ESPN.

Say what you will about Herbstreit, he went out of his way to be impartial, even though we all know he bleeds scarlet & gray. He did well enough to be promoted to the lead color/analyst of college football. Butts seems to be following the same route, being impartial in front of the camera (unlike the other Xichigan puke on ESPN Gameday).

Yes, he went out of his way to paint himself as impartial

And that has included taking completely undeserved shots at his alma mater that were red meat to the ignorant.

That’s what I never understood about Kirk. Why go SO far at times to try and seem impartial when none of your colleagues Even attempt to do the same. He is a very great guy in person, but it almost is like he takes himself too serious for Gameday. Desmond will sit right next to him and have no problem predicting an average scUM to beat Texas, UGa or any other program that is far superior. I’m surprised that he never just dunked on Mark May for all of the asinine things he would say about OSU. That would’ve made for great TV

A very interesting thing about the show is that when Matt Patricia was interviewed, he was asked something like "Are you home now?" His response was "Yes, the timing was right. I have a child that is just entering High School."
Kinda implying that he would not want to uproot one of his kids during their High School years. Maybe Matt is planning on sticking around for awhile. Did anyone else pick up on that?
