2025 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

Folks... CC games aren't going away... we're not getting LESS games... unless folks are gonna payout massive amounts of cash to the networks... .they are aren't going away... Fox isn't gonna agree to lose the B1G without getting some CFP games... which ESPN wont give up.... so the inventory of games will only increase ... never decrease.

Agreed, frankly most of what I listed will never happen, but an expansion to 16 would increase the overall number of games or keep it the same, even with losing the CCs.

But yes, you're entirely right on how it would be divided up. I would also love to see CFB work like the NFL, where the playoffs are distributed amongst the big networks, but again, fantasy land.

Byes are going to have to go away. 7 of 8 isn't a statistical aberration.

And oh yeah, SEC is 0-2 against ooc teams while the B1G is 2-1 and went belt-to-ass in the only head to head match up.

Last year, the B1G was 5-3 against ooc teams, and the sec was as 2-3. Head to head was 2-0 for the B1G.

It looks like the 12 team playoff is finally going to kill the SEC Uber Alles narrative.

I prefer to keep it 12 teams but first 2 rounds are home games for higher seeds. Additionally, the quarters should be played before Christmas. Way too long of a break.

What advantage did OSU get by being a top 4 seed? They played an away game at a half empty stadium. Again the whole set up is about money and not the actual game of football.
The teams with byes should have a home game and it should be mid December. Then all 4 teams have a 2 week layoff until the New Year Days bowls. Then the Final Game around Jan 8-10

This seems so simple and logical to me
Id be ok with this. You move the first round up to the week after CCG and the next round to the Saturday before Christmas. Then you’ve got 8-12 days off before the new years semis.

OSU, IU, and Oregon would have been so sweet. I'll get over it, but very disappointed still in how we played and how the ball bounced on NYE. No cope about bye weeks or anything else, just raw dogging my dissapointment realizing we got our shit shoved in by Miami lol fucking bullshit
This is all true, but I’m still proud of how our guys finished. They didn’t quit and still had Miami fans nervous as hell in the second half.

Bama got completely ran off the field and embarrassed.

Still hurts, but the Buckeyes never gave up or folded against anyone. They kept swinging.

Preseason polls still help the usual suspects keep the SEC DOMINANCE narrative going. We all know how this works, a handful of SEC teams get over ranked in preseason, then other SEC teams beat them to become over ranked as well and they all hold up as "quality wins" to ESPN and co at the end of the year even when those teams end up with 4+ losses. It's a never ending predictable cycle.

I'm waiting for the articles about how the SEC got "screwed" having to play games against each other in the 1st round and the quarter finals and how that means these playoff results aren't meaningful. When in reality they should be thankful that they got gifted 1 semi final team by getting to play each other. Ole Miss and UGA both woulda last to any other quarterfinal team outside of Bamas corpse

Going to 16 increases the number of games for the playoff owner. Getting rid of CCG gets rid of the game for whoever owns those right. Big ten would need to renegotiate their contract with fox/cbs/nbc (they also get half of the CCGs). I don’t think NBC or CBS is happy with the contract right now so that would open a can of worms.

Exactly, and nobody talking about how close the game actually was (not counting the last Miami drive when Bucks had to let them score). Two forced fumbles that bounced right back to Miami could have been a much different game. Lucky bastards!
