*2024 tCun Shenanigans, Arguments, Cobras, Feckless Marmots, Fake Pandas, Dirty Cheaters

Discussions revolve(d) around a minimum acceptable framework from the NCAA's perspective, which includes partial vacations of the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons, a 2 year postseason ban, loss of recognition of the 2021-23 B1G titles and football championship", fines, scholarship reductions, probation, and significant penalties levied against current and former coaches and staffers.
My guess is this was the NCAA's final take it or leave it offer.

A three year post-season ban makes more sense. They cheated to get into three post-seasons. They lose three. Two was the concession to avoid hearings, and scUM balked.

Serious question here…

What the hell can TCUN even do? Like what leverage do they have really? Why would the NCAA even settle when it’s this bad anyways?

Seriously what’s TCUN going to say “wtf that’s too steep we’ll see you in court!”?

If I were the ncaa I’d be like “ok that’s no problem considering what we have on you guys”

Clearly you’ve overlooked The Binder scUM has on all the transgressions of others. The Binder, if made public by scUM, would show that this cheatin stuff is mere French fries to go with Harbaugh’s hamburger.

Ask North Carolina and Miami.

I'm thinking games against teams they illegally scouted. I doubt they did that with their creampuff non conference opponents, but most likely did with everyone else.

Let’s assume that scUM’s cheating went beyond just filming. Around 2017 the Houston Astros brought sports cheating into the technology age, developing software to quickly recognize opposing catchers’ finger signs to pitchers (good description here:
https://ethicsunwrapped.utexas.edu/case-study/the-astros-sign-stealing-scandal ). The amount of data scUM could have obtained from all of those game films of sideline signals was enormous. But to obtain, categorize and analyze that data was a huge leap from the simple stuff the Astros did. Maybe scUM looked here? https://cse.engin.umich.edu/research/research-areas/artificial-intelligence/

Ignore whether the scUM coaches knew the details of how this cheatin scheme worked. Would any coach make any game call against a tough opponent based on an analyst’s recommendation unless that coach knew that the analyst actually had a valid basis for the call? Of course not! They had to have tested this first against the cream puffs. If the analyst was wrong the game wouldn’t be lost.

It will be fascinating to see if we ever learn the details of how sophisticated scUM’s cheatin software was. Did they input data (call signs) and get the opponent’s play call live, maybe moving from the laminated sheets to headsets?

Exactly. Are they just going to put 105 on scholarship anyways? Let Sharrone coach despite a suspension? Show up at a playoff venue and demand to play when they're banned? At that point, I really do think the death penalty comes back into play. Ono is a fool, and I said he was in way over his head with this job before any of the foosball stuff happened, but I can't imagine there aren't some adults in the room ready to step up.

The only thing they can do is sue (any lawyers want to tell me on what grounds?), but that opens up that whole mess of discovery and felony perjury.

Ask North Carolina and Miami.
UNC got off because it was an academic issue and not a sports one (yeah, I know). That can't possibly apply here. Miami, I believe, got off because the investigators violated internal ncaa policies. I think this is really different as it affects the underlying integrity of the on-field product (and the Vegas product).

What they actually have in common is that they told the NCAA to get fucked.

But both were relatively run of the mill scandals: keeping idiot athletes eligible and pay to play. It didn't directly affect the integrity of the on-field product or the Vegas lines. I hope I'm right because I just can't see them letting tcun off easy. Otherwise, fuck the whole game.

That was my first thought when I heard this!

Even Miami self-imposed bowl bans for two years prior to getting the NOA.

tcun did exactly nothing for the Stalions cheating.
Refused to cooperate up to and including the university President, circled the wagons and carried out a campaign in the press claiming they were the victims. If the ncaa doesn't hammer them, it just needs to disband and leave such matters up to the conferences.

Hilarious if so because this is going to stoke the flames of the tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists over there that all the timing is strategic because they are out to get Michigan because everyone else is jealous of them and putting the pressure on them to do so.
I don't think it's a conspiracy theory. I totally believe they are out to get tCun. And tCun have no one to blame but themselves.
