First thing you have to do is 4, 16 team FBS conferences that operate under the same rules. Two 8 team divisions. 9 conference games per year plus 3 non conference games. Conference championship game gives 4 playoff bids. The last 4 come from the rankings. First round games on campus last 4 Major Bowls. Fight it out. Done and fucking done.

The caveat is conferences could start relegation so if a perennial loser occurs you drop them for an up and comer from the lower league but that would be a bit more complicated.

4 conf, 2 divisions per 16 team conference, quarter finals is the conf championship, semis are the 4 conf winners facing off.

I’m rooting for Boise just because they’d have no chance against UGA. Ped State could accidentally beat this UGA team and land in the title game (ND isn’t beating UGA they will ND it up in that game)

Sucks but win your conference like they do in the nfl playoffs or you take the division winners and start the playoffs.

There will, inevitably, be some bad games in the first round. What they need to fix for next year is the seedings.
With the current system, we have two turds getting byes, which both degrades next week’s games and gives some teams (hello PSU and Texas) easier paths than the number one and two seeds.
Every year, we’ll have one or two turds screwing up the playoffs.
Just get rid of auto-byes for next year.
