2024 College Football Playoffs Discussion (12 Team Format)

Where did you hear that?

Nothing that I’ve seen from the committee suggests that as a possibility

ND cannot be in the top 4 because they won't be a conference champion. The best ND can ever do is #5.
I think he just means skipping a CCG is a bye week, as it likely will be for Penn State, Indiana, and Tennessee.

But the ‘second bye’ is actually getting a seed between 5 and 8 and getting a home game, (which should just require a Top-6 ranking), also what is likely for Penn State. As you guys know, only the Top 4 among the Conference champions get a playoff bye week.

Once the Top-4 seeds complain about missing out from having a home game, and folks bitch about teams ranked somewhere from 9 to 20 getting a top-4 seed, the clamor to expand to 16 will start roaring again.

The solution to unqualified teams getting into the playoffs is to add more teams to the playoffs.

Schools don't make any money off the home games. After expenses are deducted, the rest goes into the CFP pot. Now, there's lost economic impact for the town/city, hotels, bars, restaurants and so on, but Ohio State wouldn't make any profit off a home game.

I'd take that bracket right now to be honest.

Home game vs Arizona State then Boise then Oregon/GA/Tennessee for a spot in the NC game.

Only thing I don't like about that is playing anyone in Glandale AZ. It's fucking cursed.

The other side of this bracket is a joke depending on how you view Texas.

Almost like we fucking told you so.

Most of the time it felt like there weren't even 4 teams worthy of being in the 4 team playoff. Hilarious anyone thought the 12 teamer wasnt going to draw it's share of mediocrity.

Bama is a couple of teams choking away from limping in backwards with 3 losses.

This isn't basketball, it's going to be very rare to see some Cinderella turn the bracket upside down.

I think a lot of the bitching from media honks this year though is going to be because the SEC didn't get the mass number of teams they were hoping for.

So, if ND beats USC, they could end up with a bye week because they don’t have a CCG, and then a second Bye because they’re the top independent and ranked in the top four.
Uh, no, they can't be in the Top 4--ever--because they aren't in a conference and the Top 4 are reserved for conference champions.

They need to get rid of the conference champion BYE stipulation. I know you would risk years where you'd get 3 teams from the same conference getting BYEs but i'd rather have that than teams like Boise swooping in coasting through a G5 schedule.

They need a carrot for the conference championship game. Sure, you've got higher seeds for winners, but I think you need more than seeding. Give the winners byes.
I think there should be a minimum (or maximum) ranking, though. I don't care if you're a conference champion, if you're ranked.. I don't know... 16 or higher you don't get into the playoffs. It doesn't look like it'll be an issue this year. But it might in the future.

With two losses, we definitely slide down. Domers would have that sweet 5 spot. I just don't see any scenario where we keep it.
