2024-2025 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I was taking a wait and see approach since there were moments that looked promising, but I'm close to being done "seeing" for this reason. Feels like a Holtmann hangover that is lasting too long in terms of late meltdowns and piss-poor conference play. We should be playing much better with the roster we have and we are not, just saying what I believe most are thinking.

Season is not quite over and maybe Diebler gets one more year, but it should be on the hottest of hot seats imaginable if that happens. Right now it looks like the NIT again and I won't bother watching that. I don't see much fallout in moving on that would be worse than what we have now. Players may transfer, Johnson may decommit (though he seems committed to OSU, not specifically Diebler), etc...but as much as I hate to burn everything down and rebuild, it will need to be a serious consideration for Bjork.

Side note - this is easily the least excited I have been for March Madness. Really hoping Dayton gets in or otherwise I am not really going to follow it (presuming OSU is out, which seems very likely at this point).

2 B1G tournament wins gets them in, maybe they get thrown a bone and slide in with 1 win. Even if they do slide in thought its hard to get excited about a team like this backing into the tournament into the 1st 4. That blowout loss to NW at home was unforgiveable, that's what will likely keep us out.

Realistically they probably aren't going to fire him after this year, though I think moving on completely right now would be best for the program, he will more than likely be given a 2nd year. But it's going to take a lot next year for him to show he's anything but a continuation of Holtmann. Like nobody should be ok with barely making the tournament next season, he needs to turn out a actual good season where they are in a place of comfort come March.

Nah. Just ridiculous to fire a coach with all that went against Diebler this last year. Okpara and Gayle bolting & Meechie sitting out really put Diebler in a bad spot for a new coach. You've got to give him a real chance to build his own team, and one year isn't it.

Season-long problems cause the Buckeyes to drop to 17-14

Ohio State's struggles around the rim and lack of support of the bench doom them against Indiana

Ohio State lost its last game of the 2024-2025 regular season late Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes fell to the Hoosiers 66-60 in Bloomington, Indiana. The loss very likely bursts the bubble of Ohio State's NCAA Tournament hopes. Ohio State will need to win at least two, if not three, of their games in the Big Ten Tournament this week to resuscitate those hopes.

The Buckeyes' defeat to the Hoosiers was a reflection of the same problems that have troubled them all year. The biggest was the Bucks' lack of an inside game. Ohio State was once again struggling and being outplayed in the battle for rebounds and points in the paint. Indiana outrebounded Ohio State 40 to 31 and outscored them in the paint 28 to 20. That may not seem like much but in a six-point game, it was decisive.

Some other weaknesses that existed throughout the 2024-2025 season manifested themselves again against Indiana. The first is that Ohio State gets very little help from its bench. Ohio State got only nine points from four players who came off the bench against Indiana, and with three of their starters finishing the game with four or more fouls, it was a big factor—just as it has been all season.

The Buckeyes have struggled in these areas all season long, and the proof is in their national rankings. Coming into this game, the Bucks were 245th in the nation (out of 355) in points per game from the bench, averaging just a sliver more than 18 a game.

Will the Ohio State basketball team make the NCAA Tournament?

After losing to Indiana, the Buckeyes are firmly on the bubble. Will they make it?

The Ohio State basketball team is in big trouble. They had a chance to possibly seal up their NCAA Tournament bid against Indiana on Saturday afternoon. Had they won that game, they likely would have been one of the last teams into the field, regardless of what they did in the Big Ten Tournament.

Instead, they lost the game, blowing a lead late yet again. Now, they are firmly on the bubble. They need to have a deep run in the Big Ten Tournament to safely put themselves into the field. Right now, they are anything but guaranteed to make the NCAA Tournament this season.

According to Joe Lunardi of ESPN, the Buckeyes are one of the last four teams in. That would mean that they are playing in the First Four in Dayton. He seems confident that the Buckeyes are in right now. Still, there are reasons to be concerned with where they sit.

Will the Ohio State basketball team make the NCAA Tournament?

Ohio State now sits at 17-14, a truly disgusting record. They don't have any terrible losses, but they have a lot of them. Had the Buckeyes been able to just win two more games, they probably wouldn't be in this situation. Now, they have to worry about bid-stealers.

Ohio State has to make sure that they get a couple of more wins in the Big Ten Tournament to avoid a bid-stealer taking their spot. They would be very happy with all of the favorites winning their conference tournaments with ease and a semifinal spot for themselves.

I agree regarding Okpara, but are we still considering Gayle (shooting 3.7% from 3 in 2025) a loss?

This is going to sound stupid but they have a legitimate shot to win 3 straight games in this tournament if they somehow unfuck themselves mentally. Let's be honest, it's mentally where they struggle because they are athletic and skilled enough to beat anyone in our conference, and they've shown it but not consistently enough to be considered for any kind of success.

That being said, Iowa, Illinois and Maryland are not exactly murderers row and with good shooting and mentally focused Defense, they could be in the semifinal by the weekend and probably in the Big Dance. They could also play like mental midgets and lose to Iowa and watch basketball for the rest of the year instead of playing.

Predictable end to the season. Diebler was obviously unqualified to run a major college program. Baffling he was hired in the first place just b/c he won a bunch of meaningless games with no pressure in a lost season. The real "lunatic fringe" are those tOSU fans who defended such a laughable hire, especially given who scUM got. He belongs in the MAC. It's quite likely that 50% of MAC teams wouldn't even hire him. And we got him. What a joke. Eddie George is more qualified to be a B1G coach than him.

But now we are stuck with him. Hopefully major strides next year. But if not, he better be gone or we can stop taking the men's BB team as a serious program. Call them Rutgers.
