2024-2025 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I'm not calling for Diebler's head, because I do think he needs at least another year to show improvements. I also think I would have made the same moves (outside of Meechie) in the portal and felt Bradshaw and Stewart would be much better than they have shown.

That said, being in the Cleveland area I saw how fantastic Dennis Gates was for CSU, and he's continued that success at Mizzou. He's a Chicago guy, an area we've typically recruited fairly well, and he has some base knowledge of the state and created connections. He didn't get mentioned last search, but I do think he'd make a fantastic coach for us if we were in the market in the near future.

I had him on my list 2 years ago, but I’m a nobody on a message board.

Fruitless exercise but I am a fan of the recent trend of getting a top assistant coach from a good/great program.

See- Tommy Lloyd, Arizona (former Gonzaga asst). Jerome Tang, Kansas St. (former Baylor asst). Not sure who else fits that bill - the guys at Kansas and other top 5 teams seem like lifers.

That said…

Dante Jackson (Xavier asst), former X player, young (34), Columbus native

Michael Lewis (Ball State head coach), former IU player late 1990s, coached at UCLA before coming back to midwest. Turning Cardinals around quick.

Dennis Gates (Missouri head coach), just hired at Mizzou after 3 years at Cleve State, won Horizon his last 2 years. Chicago native, 43 years old.

Bryan Mullins (Southern Illinois head coach), having a good 4th season, Illinois guy.

Can Groce handle the Big Ten a 2nd time? Go steal Drake’s coach or Toledo’s had a fun team recently. Heck, there’s a Sullinger on Kent State’s staff and they have a decent record.

I’m at the point where I’m thinking, do your worst because it has to be better than this year.

Or just hope Chris saves his own ass next year. Which, I would love to root for because I like him.

I would agree that Bradshaw has not been quite what we really needed - we needed a starting big man, and he's basically a backup PF. He has some games where he shows out, but it's not been consistent and he obviously struggles with physical play inside. Perhaps if we manage to get a starting center in the portal this offseason, then he would be more in his comfort zone. Stewart has been solid - he's basically a glue guy who probably should be coming off the bench, but he plays hard and is pretty consistent. They were both good additions considering the dire need of frontcourt help, we just need someone else to be the #1 big man on the team. Sadly, it seems like recruits haven't seemed to see the gaping hole in the paint that us fans notice every game - that is really a golden opportunity for any top big man.

And this is where Okpara screwed them by leaving

Frustrating part is the Cinci area has pushed out some good bigs lately and we've missed, or not pursued, on them. Granted, recruiting that area is very tough. I do like that we finally opened up to having some undersized but tough post players, hopefully Bynum can fit that mold for us.

Would have loved to have landed Raleigh Burgess or Tyler McKinley out of the Cinci area last cycle.

Have to win the next two games to finish .500 in conference. They'd be 18-13 so 2 more wins in the B1G tourney would put them on the bubble. It's absolutely doable but I'm not holding my breath

If they win the next 2 games I think they are likely in regardless of the B1G tourney result. Winning 1 B1G tourney game at that point would clinch it though.

Nebraska just lost at home to Minnesota, so they'll probably come out Tuesday and shoot 60%

Heck I'd take that #9 seed right now....Not certain why/how come the Buckeyes claw themselves into a lead, and then squander it. Like what the Croatian frosh gives us, but he's typically freshman, not wanting to make a mistake, and being timid. Am seeing more and better minutes from (excuse me, forget his name), who's a junior (?), but nothing extensive. When a team goes small, believe tOSU has a great matchup, but when their aircraft carrier goes in, tOSU doesn't have a good matchup. We rotate in, and spend the fouls to contain, but is a losing battle.

I root for Jake and the team. The Schott sucks as a basketball venue. I know football rules the campus and fans. But something needs to change. It's easy to say that it's the head coach. But the NIL deals or recruiting are not up to snuff. And we live in an age where shit needs to be fixed yesterday. Which sucks. And men's BBall will always be second fiddle. Jake and the staff have one more year for me. Nothing is going to change in the next week. He could be the next Thad or the next Holtmann. We aren't Duke or Kansas. Yes we should make the NCAA tourney 3/4 years no matter what.

And I'm posting this after a win, which says how spoiled we are. I'll wait like I did with the other Diebler and see how his true Soph season plays out.
