I know I'm kind of reversing myself here, but once you get to at-large teams on the bubble, there's a decent argument for picking teams based on viewer interest. It's not like any of them are going to affect who the eventual champion is anyway. What's the point of a game that nobody will watch and will have no impact on the tournament?

You say bubble teams can't compete, but in 2011 VCU had a run from the First Four to the Final Four. While you would think those play-in game teams aren't capable of impacting the tournament, that's not always going to be the case. The Selection Committee should absolutely pick teams that are most capable of being able to compete, regardless of viewer interest because the spirit of the tournament is about giving the little guy a chance to shock the world.

You guys are right. Well, except for maybe giving into corporate bullshit capitalism part. I think that train left the station decades ago, and we all kind of give into it by continuing to watch the games.
