Maybe I'm being obtuse, but when it comes to the judge, I don't see it making a big difference.
On the one side, does this judge really want to put forth a judgment for all the world to question his professional integrity. He's really in a no win situation. Furthermore, if an appeal needs to be done on his judgment, then it's all the easier to show to the appellate court that he's a biased twat.
