2023 NCAA Tournament and Bracket Discussion

It's an interesting argument. This would be their 5th title in 25 years. 2 more than anyone else in that time. However, they have a lot of mediocre/bad years interspersed. "Blue Blood Ugly Duckling?"
The weirdest program. And again…a title is a title. UConn fans certainly don’t care or need to care. I wouldn’t as a fan but from the outside there are some WEIRD runs and matchups.

2011 vs #8 seed Butler after Heyward left.
2014 vs #8 seed Kentucky with the Harrison twins at their worst
2023 vs #5 seed SDSU…well we’ve all watched their games. Consecutive 1pt wins to get here. Over their heads.

Oh, it's absolutely their bread and butter, but this isn't a program that consistently contends for NCs, or regularly stacks their roster with blue-chip recruits. Hell, they've had multiple-year runs of missing the damn tournament. But every few years they just happen upon a well-built roster and go on a run. They're aiming for their third title in thirteen years under three different coaches. Crazy stuff.

I think it's a little more than that. This would be their fifth men's title in the last 25 years. No one else has more than three (Duke, UNC).

Oh, I'm not trying to take anything away from what they've done. Just saying they are kind of an oddball program in that they have more hardware than anyone, but don't stack up consistently with the "blueblood" programs. As I said earlier, they've missed the tournament 50% of the time in the last 14 season, but look poised to win their 3rd NC in that same time. I guess I wouldn't complain about those circumstances.
