completion % is good at 78.6%. That's good..... Against some quality competition that would be really good. yds/attempt however, tells a slightly different story. McCarthy has 848 on 84 attempts, which comes out to 10.095 yds/att. Another notable player: Stroud: 10.269.....against MUCH better competition.

Against P5 competition (Iowa and Maryland) his YPA sinks to 7.5. That shows heavy inflation against the 3 awful defenses. His completion % also drops to 72% against the P5 competition. Still very good when you just look at it on paper. The throws against Iowa & MD were a lot more TE/RB dump off heavy though.

He has shown absolutely nothing to lead to believe that scUM can win a close game if it has to be put on his back.

Totally agree. If they need to prop themselves up with meaningless stats and refuse to acknowledge that they've played a shit schedule, that's fine with me. We'll see who has the higher numbers in the categories that count at the end of the season.....

Obviously the key to beating scUM is slowing Corum down

the second key is making McCarthy beat you deep though.

He's been good so far at not forcing things and throwing stupid INTs. However against the 2 "better" teams they've played he hasn't really shown he can consistently hit big plays downfield when there is a DB somewhere in the remote range of the WR. Take away those dink and dunk safety dumpoffs and make him beat you down the field.

I imagine we’ll see a good dose of play action and RPO from them.

He's their entire offense, they need him to run at least 25-30 times

Indiana is bad though. On defense 102nd in total yards allowed per game and on offense 83rd in total yards per game.

If scUM is having to ride Corum to win that game they've got a lot more issues than we already know about.

So far this season....

Colorado St: 13 carries
Hawaii: 9 carries
Uconn: 12 carries
Maryland: 30 carries
Iowa: 29 carries

Unless things are going completely bad i'd expect the 15-20 range vs Indiana. But who knows, we know Harbaugh likes to ride his bell cow into the ground at any instant he starts feeling unsafe. I don't see Indiana's offense doing enough to be a threat though. The QB is terrible and the running game can't get anything going.

That’s because he hasn't been allowed to do the jump spin fade pass. You just wait till they let McCarthy be McCarthy
