Possible Hawthorn effect. Possible the timer's finger got faster. Possible the kid got stronger due to strength program. Possible the kid read his press clippings and became faster. Halfback is bitten by an atomic spider. Halfback was shot into space and was fried in the Van Allen belt and came back to earth as The Flash. Kid took guitar lessons from Eddie Van Halen and became faster. The possibilities are endless under Harbaugh and the Michigan Mystique.

Your DFBIA terrible take of the day

https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/qb-controversy-concern-misplaced-why-not-play-both

"Why not keep playing both QBs every game!"

Consider we had two great running backs last year, Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum. Neither seemed to diminished or “stunted” by having to share time with the other. This year we have the same situation with Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum. No one seems to mind, worry or care.

Because rotating QBs and RBs works exactly the same way

The offensive team already has to adjust to different personnel packages and when people can rotated in and out, so why not the QB?

Has constantly playing 2 different QBs ever actually worked?

I know some people will claim TEBOW!!! his Freshman year at Florida. He was purely a gadget player though used basically as a fullback wildcat. They didn't put him in the run the offense just like Leak. They had set plays for him and that was it. Also it still wasnt anywhere near a 50/50 snap count between the 2. DFBIA wants 2 different completely offenses to be able to switch on the fly every game between McCarthy and McNamara.

Aww hell. I hate to argue that maybe they have a good idea. And for the record, I LOVE this idea. I'm sure it will work out really well for them.
I guess I'd like to know what you mean by "ever actually worked". I might argue that Jackson and Germaine worked pretty well for Ohio State. Though, I believe that Germaine was the better of the two, and would point to the differences in the offenses from 1996-1997 to 1998. In 1996, the offense averaged 212.2 yards passing, 228.3 yards rushing (440.5 total). In 1997, Ohio State averaged 242.0 yards passing, 164.1 yards rushing (406.1 total). In 1998, Ohio State averaged 298.0 yards passing, 199.6 yards rushing (497.6 total). So.... 2 quarterbacks didn't work as well as 1 did.

But that 1996 team was one defensive play away from a possible national championship. So I'd say that the 2 QB system "worked", though not as well as just playing the better guy. So.. you tell me if that fits your definition.

Cade McNamara may be in a heated quarterback battle with J.J. McCarthy, one that extended into the regular season, but the Michigan quarterback found time to honor the big men up front. McNamara bought a gift for his offensive linemen. Namely, that gift was a customized PING driver for each of the “big uglies” up front. Despite a 51-7 win over Colorado State to open up the season, McNamara struggled a bit throwing the football.

He finished the game 9-of-18 passing for 136 yards and one touchdown. McCarthy actually got in the game, despite being scheduled to start this weekend’s contest against Hawaii before head coach Jim Harbaugh makes a decision. McCarthy went 4-of-4 passing for 30 yards, while Alan Bowman also got some time, completing 5 of 6 passes for 40 yards.

But since the running game was solid as well, the offensive linemen deserved some sort of praise. McNamara’s gift of drivers looks pretty sweet.

The transfer windows, which will go into effect in time for the 2022-23 season, will allow 60 days per year for athletes to enter the portal and maintain immediate eligibility for first-time transfers. For fall sports like football, the period will be split into two periods. The first, a 45-day period, will start the day after championship selections are made. A second window will be instituted from May 1-15 so players can enter the transfer portal after spring camp.

Just sayin': I just have a feeling that Harbaugh knows that guy who doesn't end up being QB1 will transfer. Technically McNamara is a Senior; however, he redshirted in 2019 and this is just his 3rd year playing. I believe that with the extra COVID year he could have 2 more years of eligibility. Whoever ends up QB2 isn't likely coming back next year to be QB2 again.

I think German and Stanley might represent the high water market for rotating QBs. If memory serves OSU rotated Brett Powers and ... BoHo? Anyway, that didn't lead to a championship and I'd say OSU early 90s was probably a better comparison with scUM now, even if I'd still say early 90s OSU still had more talent roster wide.

McCarthy struggling vs Hawaii (who looks like the worst FBS team at the point) would be pretty hilarious. I'm sure Harbaugh is banking on him going crazy so he can easily justify starting him the rest of the year.

Even if he does struggle throwing though, he will probably break a few long "spectacular" runs against a dreadful overmatched defense, which will give DFBIA enough to hype him on.
