I know it’s the UM thread but this type of comment is really weird and inappropriate.

Their performance was considerably worse. We expected our defense to stink up the joint. They relied on theirs to carry them all season and hoped they would be able to neutralize a less than explosive UGA offense. It didn’t.

scUM’s vaunted D was a result of their two edge rushers having surprisingly exceptional seasons. It started and ended with them. The rest of their D is mediocre, at best. UGA neutralized those edge rushers and all of their weaknesses were brutally exposed.

Guess what? Next season, both of those guys are likely gone and I don’t see anybody on their roster with similar skill. It’ll be back to normal next year.
Late to this comment but I agree. I was actually pretty surprised at how easily Georgia moved the ball. Thought it’d take UGA all game to get to 34, not damn near one half while calling off the dogs in the second.

A depleted OSU defense that was trash even at full strength still gave up less yards and an almost equal number of points (7 points given up because of STs). Georgia is a much more talented offense than Utah but they easily could’ve hit 50 if they waited until the 4th quarter to mail it in.

yea UGA definitely mailed it in at halftime. scUM still couldn’t do anything though minus that under 5 minutes left garbage TD. Which I’m sure some of DFBIA will use as “proof” that McCarthy is the savior next year.

Your last sentence is why I feel confident in my vote in the 2021 thread that McNamara transfers first. No way they're both there next season, right?

They need to root for Cade to transfer, because if they're both there sharing, they may lose both by October.

QB's need to be treated with kids gloves now. Think back to 2014 & 2015. Does anybody think JTBIV and Braxton stick around in the age of the transfer portal? Barrett was phenomenal as a freshman until his injury. Fast forward 9 months and he's coming off the bench for Cardale. Braxton, though very raw/erratic as a passer, was entrenched for 2 years at QB. 2014 he gets hurt. By 2015 he's looking up at JTBIV and Cardale.

Cardale struggled without Tom Herman calling the plays in 2015 and eventually loses his job to Barrett. What happens if JTBIV and Braxton bail? You either stick with a struggling Cardale or you turn to Joe Burrow, who took a few years to become JOE BURROW and was just a true frosh, or Stephen Collier, another true frosh who ever even saw the field. The 2015 team is much maligned, offensively at least (and with good reason), but that team still went 12-1, stomped ND in the Fiesta Bowl and finished #4 in the country. Does anybody think that happens if they have to continue to play Cardale or turn to a true freshman? I don't.

Harbaugh is in an extremely tricky position right now. If he sticks with McNamara, he likely loses the most hyped QB he's recruited to tsun; if he turns to McCarthy, he better hope his QB development does a rapid 180 because while his ceiling seems like it may be pretty high, his floor is waaaay lower than McNamara. Watching Rainman handle a delicate situation should make for some quality entertainment this offseason and he threw grease on the fire by benching McNamara the other night.

The real issue is that he can't just go get another stud QB because most of them don't want to come play in a 3 TE's and a cloud of dust offense these days.

McCarthy kind of fell into his lap. The kid was begging for an OSU offer, but the staff chose McCord. His QB recruits since arriving at tsun (247 composite):

- 2015 Zach Gentry, 4*, #174 overall, moved to TE
- 2015 Alex Malzone, 4*, #299 overall, a Hoke commit Harbrau had to re-sell. Never saw the field before transferring to Fredo.
- 2016 Brandon Peters, 4*, #61 overall, received massive amounts of hype going into 2017, but stunk. Transferred to Illinois after 2018 and spent 3 mediocre years there.
- 2017 Dylan McCaffrey, 4*, #123 overall, was actually a 5* when he committed, but slid in the rankings as a HS Sr. Saw the field occasionally in 2018/19, but transferred prior to 2020.
- 2018 Joe Milton, 4*, #203 overall, played sparingly in 2019, received massive (Cam Newton ) hype leading into 2020, but stunk. Benched and transferred to Tennessee in 2021.
- 2019 Cade McNamara, 4*, #268 overall, stepped in for Milton in 2020 and was "meh." Won the job this year and turned into a good, if limited, game manager.
- 2020 Dan Villari, 3*, NR overall, Harbrau totally whiffed on the 2020 QB class and had to reach for this unranked 3*. Will never be more than a 3rd string guy.
- 2021 JJ McCarthy, 5*, #25 overall, OSU passed on him for McCord, rotated in occasionally during 2021, looked talented but very raw. Looks to have a high ceiling, but also a low floor.
- 2022 Alex Orji, 3*, #427 overall, I didn't even know they had a qb commit for '22 til i looked. Know nothing of him.
- 2022 Jayden Denegal, 3*, #455 overall, see above

So, entering his 8th class, Harbrau has signed a total of 2 top-100 QBs over that time. Looking at the list, McNamara is BY FAR, the most successful QB he's recruited. Of the 8 that have put on the ttun uniform, only 3 have started a game. Peters sucked, Milton sucked and now McNamara. The other 5 did nothing of note. McCaffrey received a bunch of hype, but was used sparingly and bailed.

McNamara is an okay qb. He's not a superstar/all-american kind of player that everyone was sold they would be pumping out under "the QB Whisperer." That gives him a 1/8 hit rate on QBs he's recruited. They better hope that gets fixed FAST if they're counting on McCarthy to be a torch-bearer because he needs a lot of work. I'd compare where he is as a qb to Joe Milton in 2020. Lots of talent...good arm, mobile/athletic, but he's nowhere near a finished product. He needs a lot of work. Milton bombed. McNamara wasn't asked to do much and was less of a risk taker, so he worked out okay. Don't see McCarthy fitting that mold.
