No. No they cannot.
It's what they do. It's who they are.

Would you elaborate? I didn't watch any bowl games (listened to the Rose Bowl on Sirius).I’ll be surprised if McNamara isn’t in the portal next week after the way he was unceremoniously tossed aside yesterday…
McNamara struggled, but it wasn't just him; the whole team sucked. For the first 3 quarters, they brought in McCarthy a couple of times to run a play here-and-there. At some point in the fourth quarter with the game already well out of reach, they flat benched McNamara and went with McCarthy the rest of the way with mixed results. At the end of the game, the camera panned to McNamara at one point and he looked rather...angry.Would you elaborate? I didn't watch any bowl games (listened to the Rose Bowl on Sirius).
Thanks for the info.McNamara struggled, but it wasn't just him; the whole team sucked. For the first 3 quarters, they brought in McCarthy a couple of times to run a play here-and-there. They were never in the game, McCarthy wasn't leading them back. McNamara got them to where they where and they benched him for a true freshman on national TV. The Harbrau basically created a very public QB controversy for them next season. McCarthy has 3 years of eligibility remaining, McNamara 2. McCarthy was a hotshot recruit, McNamara widely viewed as a game manager. The optics are that McCarthy is their guy. If you're McNamara, do you come back and waste a year of eligibility on that situation?
I'd understand making a switch if you had a whiff of a chance at winning the game and you just needed a spark from the QB position with the starter killing you. That wasn't the situation. Nothing was working and they were down 31 points. McNamara has very obvious limitations and they were exposed, but McCarthy wasn't going to turn the tides. Benching the QB that got you there for a raw freshman who is going to have zero impact on the results of that game is basically saying "McNamara isn't good enough, lets let the kid audition for next year." If you plan on a QB competition next year because you know McNamara is limited, that's fine; let them battle it out in the spring and summer. But to bench your starter, the supposed "soul" of your team on national television, in the biggest game your program has been in in 15 years when it serves zero purpose other than to embarrass him and basically ignite a public controversy is idiotic and very on-brand for Jim Harbaugh. Thanks for the info.
That's a predicament completely aligned with Harbrau antics. Shame.
How do you celebrate a win, or explain a loss, if the team you played "sucks"?
How do you call it a great season if you win a conference championship in a conference that "sucks"?
I hate when we lose to Michigan. I want to see the Buckeyes win every competition with them from Football to Tiddly Winks. But if they win a game, I want it to be because they were the better team on the field/floor/rink/mat/course/pitch that day. If the Bucks win the game, I want it to be because they were better than a worthy opponent. If they win the conference, I want it to be a conference worthy of winning.
In that regard, I believe that Michigan had a great year. Their lone conference loss came in an away game where one running back rushed for 200 yards and five touchdowns. They beat their main rival by 15 points. They won their CCG handily.
The conference they represented sent 7 teams to bowl games outright, one as an emergency fill-in, and went 6 - 2 (6 - 1 if you don't count the game in which Rutgers filled in to keep the bowl alive) in play against other bowl-eligible teams despite the fact that they were the "away" team in all but two of the bowls.
I get the disdain for Michigan, but not the disrespect. I get the resentment of SEC, SEC, SEC. But what pride can be taken if you beat a Michigan team that's not worthy? What's the big whoop of winning the conference if it's filled with unworthy teams. I mean, who thinks Clemson has proven anything by dominating ACC football?
Congratulations are in order for both Michigan and the Big Ten.
All that said, Go Bucks, Beat Michigan. 2022 will be the Bucks' year.
If that wasn't the situation, why would they go for 2 instead of just kicking the XP like a normal team? You only do that if you have a chance to come back. Or if you're just a bunch of frauds lead by Captain Spectrum.I'd understand making a switch if you had a whiff of a chance at winning the game and you just needed a spark from the QB position with the starter killing you. That wasn't the situation.

And they will never understand how funny it is that they've fallen so far that they're now the "plucky underdog."Next year they'll go back to Harbaugh status quo. 3-5 losses.
Hutchinson and Ojabo are both gone, their secondary will be fish out of water again without that constant pass rush presence. Stetson Bennett fucking carved them up with those guys being held ineffective by the UGA Oline. Their best DB (Hill) is likely gone and their most productive LB Josh Ross is done as well.
Oline will need some rebuilding as well. The center who played well all year and was a anchor to their OL is gone and all First Team all BIG OT Stueber is gone. Ryan Hayes could decide to leave as well.
Haskins is a bigger loss than a lot of people think too IMO. Can Corum or Edwards be that work horse? I guess we will see.
Not to mention you get the feeling a QB controversy mess is coming too, especially with how bad McNamara was against UGA
That "look at poor us we are always the underdog" mentality is fucking out the window too. (Though im sure DFBIA will keep it up)
And they will never understand how funny it is that they've fallen so far that they're now the "plucky underdog."
If tOSU ever got to the point that we were a consistent underdog, I (and most of us) would be PISSED. This is where that "standards" thing I'm always on about comes into play.
