I have not had the displeasure of watching them yet this season. That will change this weekend. But I just have a hard time believing they are really good. I am still a bit baffled by their performance or maybe better said by tOSU performance last year. I chalk it up to a rookie QB and a bad defense. And the fact that even a blind squirrel will find a nut once in awhile.
I will say this for certain. If they can not beat my Spartans this weekend then I have to go back on my 100% belief that last season was pure luck and this season has been due to the weakest schedule in D1. Or close to it. I need to watch the PSU game and decide if PSU is any good.

“Ohio state is still soft” “no different from last year” all the same crap. Lol. A good amount of them still really think scUM is going to waltz into the shoe, easily run for 300+ yards while dominating time of possession for a easy W.

"We have a younger QB who is hopefully on a steeper learning curve with 4 games left, who is a playmaker and whose legs are a tremendous threat, but who is still making a few boneheaded schoolyard gaffs when stressed, but is really quite poised."

Wow! He's poised but he makes boneheaded schoolyard gaffs. "Boneheaded" and "schoolyard" are two of the adjectives I think of first when I describe someone who is poised.

Also some fun whining about Ohio State “always running up the score in garbage time”
tOSU: Total points = 347; 4th quarter points = 56; percentage in 4th quarter = 16.1%

scUM: Total points = 299; 4th quarter points = 90; percentage in 4th quarter = 30.1%

scUM has scored 34 more points in garbage time than Ohio State....

scUM has scored 61% more points in garbage time than Ohio State....

scUM has scored more than average points in garbage time (30.1% actual vs 25.0% average)

tOSU has scored far less than average points in garbage time (16.1% actual vs 25.0% average)

Did you not read their thread?
[scUM fan]That's with our back-ups in the game!!! Also, running plays!!![/scUM fan]

I'd be interested to see the number of plays Kyle McCord has been in, compared to *ichigan back-ups. And I'm not counting their duo-quarterback situation where both were going to play and the second gets to come in the game in the 2nd quarter. I'm only looking at back-up situations. Or how about number of plays Devin Brown has been in compared to whoever *ichigna's 3rd quarterback is?

My sense is that ttun scores late because they’ve physically demoralized their opponent into attrition, while OSU scores late because they’ve athletically humiliated their opponent into attrition.

That's exactly what it is.

Ohio State blows these mediocre-bad B1G teams out of the water from the start. scUM can't pull away until late in the game until the lesser teams become beaten down.

Until this week, Stroud did not have enough attempts in the 4th quarter to show up in the rankings.

Now Stroud is #1 in the country in 4th quarter passing efficiency at 250.21.
6 of his 15 attempts were against Iowa starters.
And he leads the country anyway.

To his credit, McCarthy is 3rd in the country in 4th quarter PE.

McCord is 20th in the country in 4th quarter PE. And he has often been leading the Ohio State backups against the other team's starters.

Overall, Ohio State is #2 in the country in 4th quarter PE (Tennessee is #1), and TTUN is #3.

Ohio State has 30 4th quarter attempts
TTUN has 33

I don't really see a lot of difference there. Must be my Buckeye Bias

So, you’re saying that tOSU scores points to create garbage time as opposed to using garbage time to score points? Amazing.

If by "attempts" you're referring to "pass attempts", I think this says a lot more than you think. Ohio State has 30 pass attempts in the 4th quarter in 7 games? Roughly 4.29-ish a game? *ichigan has 33/7 attempts per game = 4.71. Ohio State has 208 pass attempts on the season. Take out the 30 you say are in the 4th quarters = 178 in quarters 1 through 3. There have been 7 games, so 21 quarters (excluding 4th quarters), so that's averaging 8.47 attempts per quarter. That's about double what they're averaging in fourth quarters.

*ichigan, on the other hand, has 186 pass attempts all season long, with 33 coming in the 4th quarters. 153 coming in first three quarters. 21 quarters, they're averaging about 7.29 per quarter.

Ohio State drops their pass attempts to about half in the 4th quarter (4.71/8.47 = 50.65%). *ichigan drops their pass attempts to about 64.61% in the 4th quarter (4.71/7.29).

It tells me that Ohio State is pulling their foot off the pedal in the fourth quarter more than *ichigan is.

The more I think about this, I think the more "garbage time" would need to be defined. Like, a difference of X with Y minutes remaining in the game. But maybe with half of Y remaining in the game, only 75% of X becomes the new rule. Some nerdy chart, or something.
Then, when the game is in "garbage time" (now defined), how many snaps did back-ups get for Team A compared to the overall snaps in the game. Or... maybe a better metric - the percentage of snaps that the back-ups got compared to the number of snaps the starters got in garbage time.

Super Easy. Barely an inconvenience.

Lots of tedious work.
