2022 Ohio High School Playoffs

Updates

D1
St. Ed's 27 - Mentor 0
Springfield 35 - Olentangy Liberty 7
Gahanna Lincoln 25 - New Albany 17
Moeller 38 - Lakota West 20

St. Ed's vs Gahanna Lincoln
Moeller vs Springfield

Sad to see the Lakota West run end, but incredible balance in D1 and the favorite St. Ed's seems to have a relatively easy path to the title game

Hoban 41 - Hudson 7
Toledo Central Catholic 28 - Avon 20
Massillon 24 - Uniontown Lake 6
Kings Mills 46 - Anderson 40

Massillon vs Hoban
Toledo CC vs Kings Mills

De facto title game is Massillon vs Hoban - while most would say Hoban I would say not soooo fast my friend! Hoban's only loss was by 21 to St. Ed's to end the regular season. St. Ed's, the D1 favorite that only has one loss this season....which came at the hands of Massillon! And Massillon's only loss came at the hands of Moeller who is a D1 semi finalist, and Moeller....wait, they only have one loss on the season and that's to St. Ed's. Whoa, my head hurts.

Canfield 14 - Chardon 7
Holy Name 56 - Padua 21
Bloom-Carroll 33 - Bishop Watterson 28
Tippeacanoe 20 - Hamilton Badin 17

Canfield vs Holy Name
Bloom-Carroll vs Tippecanoe

Seems like we are headed to a proper final with Canfield vs. Tippecanoe, which is exactly why we'll see Holy Name vs Bloom-Carroll!

Canfield South Range 49 - Perry 21
Liberty Center 49 - Elmwood 38
Ironton 34 - Canal Winchester Harvest Prep 0
Germantown Valley View 21 - Milton Union 7

Ironton vs Germantown Valley View
Canfield South Range vs Liberty Center

Hey - a balanced an unpredictable Final 4! If I had to pick, I'd go Ironton since their run game is clicking but of the 4 this is by far the most fun set of games for next weekend.

Jefferson Area 41 - West Branch 37
Glenville 42 - Van Wert 33
Steubenville 41 - Gnadenhutten Indian Valley 7
Wyoming 7 - Taft 0

Steubenville vs Wyoming
Glenville vs Jefferson Area

Whew doggy! Big Red vs Cowboys who have the best defense stat wise in the state.....ecstatic to see Ted Ginn Sr back at states and expect him to be in the title game. Glenville can beat either Steubenville or Wyoming, but Wyoming has looked like the best all season and I'd be a bit surprised to see that change now.

Kirtland 30 - Mogadore 0
Columbus Grove 34 - Columbia Station 0
Fort Frye 35 - Bellaire 28
Marion Local 55 - Harrod Allen East 0

Marion Local vs Columbus Grove
Kirtland vs Fort Frye

I have no words. Did not expect the only game to be Fort Frye/Bellaire. Marion Local scares me. I'm glad we'll likely get the Kirtland vs Marion Local title game, but at this point I almost just want to see if KIrtland can stay within 21. The Flyers have given up 3 points in their last 8 games....this after they got bumped up a division. They are UCLA of the 60's.

Warren JFK 22 - Danville 21
Lima CC 43 - Antwerp 7
Newark Catholic 27 - Hannibal River 12
New Bremen 24 - Fort Laramie 0

New Bremen vs Lima CC
Warren JFK vs Newark Catholic

Warren JFK/Newark Catholic is a 1 v 1, New Bremen vs Lima CC is a 5 v 4, so I kinda like the set up for the title game which I'll predict as a New Bremen vs Newark Catholic. I have no reason to guess that other than Warren JFK has played with fire a lot and gotten away with it but Newark Catholic is a team good enough to make them pay for that, and as far as the other game I just dislike the whole city of Lima, lima beans, limon flavored items, so whatever.

We're back baby :)

D1
St. Ed's 31 vs. Gahanna Lincoln 7
Springfield 28 - Moeller 24

I am a little surprised by the Springfield result, well not just a little, that's a pretty big upset. Their best win/s all year was two wins over Centerville, otherwise their resume was not sparkling. Well, throw that out the window because they shock Moeller and help prevent a rematch from earlier this year as St. Ed's already beat Moeller in a blistering 6-0 affair. All that said, it's been great D1, but St. Ed's has this locked up. Call your bookies now or visit the local donut shop.

D2
Hoban 41 - Massillon Washington 20
Toledo Central Catholic 52 - Kings Mills 49

Well, my dreams for the Tigers is dead and I apologize for putting the curse on them. I'd love to sit here and tell you TCC has a shot and try to convince myself that by pointing to their Week 1 23-20 loss to St. Ed's, which is as good a loss as you can have, but the reality is TCC has struggled to get past Avon and Kings Mills and unless they do a 180* they will lose by 20+ next weekend.

D3
Canfield 38 - Holy Name 21
Bloom-Carroll 35 - Tippecanoe 12

A little surprised at the last game, at least at the size of victory. This is the most unpredictable title game so far - both teams have a legit chance. This is a "down" year for Canfield in some ways, in some years I'd have them rolling here but there's something about the Bulldogs of Bloom-Carroll to me. They're more battle tested since really round 2 of the playoffs, they have the "it" feel to me so if I'm picking I'm going with them....they were back to back runners up in D4 the last two years and they get over the hump for state title numero uno.

D5
Ironton 35 - Germantown Valley View 21
Canfield South Range 35 - Liberty Center 0

Wow, the Raaaaidahs of South Range shellac previously undefeated Liberty Center. A rarity will occur in the title game as we have 15-0 vs. 15-0, somethings gotta give...Ironton is looking for their first title since 1989, South Range is looking for their first ever...and I think they get it, John Madden's ghost streaks the field after.

Semi's Day 2 Updates

D4
Wyoming 32 - Steubenville 20
Glenville 52 - Jefferson Area 7

Glenville rolls with ease, as expected, and get a second chance at winning their first ever state title which they'll have an incredibly difficult opponent in Wyoming who is 15-0 and has looked like the best team in D4 all year. This has the potential to be the best, or the worst, title game but dammit if it doesn't have me intrigued.

D6
Marion Local 27 - Columbus Grove 0
Kirtland 41 - Fort Frye 6

The clear cut two favorites give us the matchup everyone has wanted....hopefully this gets the primetime slot of the weekend. Nothing more needs to be said, KIrtland vs. Marion Local.

D7
New Bremen 42 - Lima CC 34
Warren JFK 21 - Newark Catholic 7

Warren is going for their 3rd state title, and New Bremen is looking to recover their state title from 2020. I really don't know much about this one so that's all I got!

The RB for Glenville, I believe Jones, is a monster. Doesn't look like he has a ton of speed but just won't go down and is a bruiser. I think he had like 150 yards for three TDs on eight carries in the first half.
