2022 College Football Polls

1. ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

2. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES

PFF notes that Buckeyes wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the best-returning player at his position in the FBS ranks and no quarterback was more efficient down the stretch than C.J. Stroud, one of the early 2022 Heisman favorite. Ohio State is the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten next season and get to the College Football Playoff according to oddsmakers and we don't disagree. The Buckeyes should play with a chip on their shoulder after a disappointing 2021 campaign by program standards, which culminated with a Rose Bowl win over Utah as a consolation prize of sorts after missing out on the league title. A new-look defensive scheme under Jim Knowles should help this team tremendously and the 2022 signing class has several early-impact pieces who will play.

3. GEORGIA BULLDOGS

4. CLEMSON TIGERS

5. MICHIGAN WOLVERINES

6. TEXAS A&M AGGIES

7. UTAH UTES

8. USC TROJANS

9. OKLAHOMA SOONERS

10. WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS

11. NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH
.
.
.
21. Wisconsin Badgers

Not a lot of respect for the B1G (just 3 teams); no Penn State, Sparty, or Iowa in the top 25.

I'd bet a good amount of money that Michigan finishes closer to not in the top 25 than they do to #5 next season.
Date Opponent Time / TV UM Rank Location Result MBN Coverage
9/3 Colorado State TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -
9/10 Hawaii TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -
9/17 Connecticut TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -
9/24 MARYLAND TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -
10/1 @ IOWA TBA / TBA -/- Iowa City, IA 0-0 -
10/8 @ INDIANA TBA / TBA -/- Bloomington, IN 0-0 -
10/15 PENN STATE TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -

10/29 MICHIGAN STATE TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -
11/5 @ RUTGERS TBA / TBA -/- Piscataway, NJ 0-0 -
11/12 NEBRASKA TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -
11/19 ILLINOIS TBA / TBA -/- Ann Arbor, MI 0-0 -
11/26 @ OHIO STATE TBA / TBA -/- Columbus, OH 0-0 -

I don't see them losing until they hit Columbus, especially since they get Penn State and Sparty at home. Maybe Iowa at Iowa City.

I could see them with 3 losses before playing us

I like the thought, but who? The first three games are gimmes, then they get Maryland at home. Iowa at Iowa City could prove to be tough, IU is back to being IU. Penn State is in Ann Arbor, Bye always plays them tough, but really... Michigan State might have an emotional advantage - if you think M fan arrogance gets under our skin, just imagine what Sparty fans must feel, but in the end they're still Sparty. Rutgers - ummmm, maybe, but no. Corn? again they're at home. Fat boy and child bride wander into town for senior day. He left Wisconsin because he couldn't beat Ohio State (1-5) and was 500 with Michigan. What makes anyone believe he'll have better luck with Illinois?

So there you have it, second in Big Ten recruiting over the last ten years, history, lots of money, a favorable schedule with two of his toughest games at home. I'm still thinking he rolls into Columbus with 11 wins.

At Iowa is always a weird place to play and ripe for an upset no matter how mediocre they are.

Rutgers battled them hard last year in Ann Arbor. Schiano always has some tricks up his sleeve. There's a possibility for some shenanigans in that game.

MSU has their number so they should always be treated as a serious threat.

And finally PSU has comparable talent and a desperate coach.

I think it's likely they'll be favored in every game, at least before the season starts. But their roster is not good enough to go 11-0 imo. They will stumble somewhere, and you can't count out the possibility of the train going off the tracks.

.
If that ends up being a night game, then the "Kinnick Voodoo" comes in to play, and scUM has been a victim of that in the past as have the Buckeyes as we all remember. The Hawkeyes may have some serious revenge motivation also. Iowa walking away with a win in that one would not surprise me at all.

Yep. Anyone who thinks that Iowa doesn't have that game highlighted is seriously ignorant...

College football's winningest programs vs. Top 25 opponents

1. ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE

2021 season vs. Top 25: 5-1

Record vs. Top 25 since 2010: 62-16 (.794)

2. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES

2021 season vs. Top 25: 4-2

Record vs. Top 25 since 2010: 43-13 (.767)

The word: Much of Ohio State's heightened success since 2010 came via Urban Meyer, who dismantled the Big Ten throughout his tenure. Meyer was hired at Ohio State in 2012 and immediately led the team to a 12-0 record, although the team was ineligible for the postseason due to the violations under Jim Tressel. Ohio State won the national championship during the 2014 season, beating four ranked teams in the process. The Buckeyes also beat four ranked teams in 2016 and 2017, but they reached a high mark with five Top 25 wins in 2018, Meyer's final season. Ohio State beat five Top 25 opponents during Ryan Day's first season and four in 2021. Day is gunning for his first national championship in 2022.
