2022/23 Bowl Game Discussion Thread

Going on record this morning and stating that I think TCU is going to beat Michigan.

My reasons are as follows:

1). I trust Max Duggan more than I trust JJM
2). Quentin Johnson is the best player on the field and he plays for the Frogs.
3). Should there be a 6-8 minute lapse where TCU looks a bit lost, it's not going to be a deal breaker. They came back from deficits all year long so getting down 10 points in the 2nd isn't going to phase them at all.
4). Sonny Dykes is 55 years old. This might be his last chance to even sniff a title game. I don't think he has a tactical advantage over Harbaugh, but if there was one coach willing to go balls to the wall and coach with their hair on fire - I'd say it was Dykes.
5). I'm not sure this matters - but they should have a crowd advantage given the proximity of TCU to Arizona

I don't know. These seem like intangibles, but I think TCU is going to win.

I will buy a Hypnotoad sweatshirt if this happens.

I'm torn. It would be a snicker that turns into a laugh if the Bucks win. BUT if both Michigan and Ohio State lose it's going to put the Big Ten way back in the early rankings, lower their strength of schedule scores at selection time, hurt recruiting. If both get blown out the cries from USC and Bama are going to get louder.

Don’t be torn. Fuck Michigan and the rest of the Big Ten, but especially Michigan. There’s a 12 team playoff in 2024 so SOS doesn’t really matter at that point, at least for #1 and #2 in the B1G. USC and Bama can cry all they want - they aren’t in this year’s playoff.

I like this a lot. Go Frogs.
But, to be honest, I don't see TCU winning.

Missouri didn't want to play Kansas so they lost to Wake Forest, instead. Right now, they probably wish they'd have played Kansas. Arkansas may get to 40 by halftime.

I guess it goes without saying that I respectfully disagree with a lot of this; but as a Michigan fan there's always one type of game that will live forever in my nightmares. It's a game where we're bigger, and stronger, and should absolutely dominate both lines of scrimmage, but we're facing a blazing fast team, running a videogame offense, with a running QB who doesn't know fear. Unfortunately, TCU is exactly that team.

My head tells me these are not the droids you're looking for, and Michigan is going to win this game. My heart tells me that we've been here before; and that has me terrified.

Intangibles tho? Man, we're back from the dead - we were left half buried after 2018-2020; by all rights Jim Harbaugh should be coaching linebackers for the Ravens right now, that's how bad it got. We too, might not get a better chance than this one; and the recruiting classes the past two years have not set us up for future success. We're in it to win it this time; I promise you that. The mental aspect won't be the issue; if we get beat, it's because TCU beat us with the talent they have and refused to let us make the game about our front five versus their gimmicky 3-3-5 "beat the spread" defense.

I'll be damned. I thought Grace Slick died years ago.

I'm fairly certain that whoever the brunette was, bouncing around the stage, she's not 83 year old Grace Slick. I apologize for the photo.
