No offense, but there were signs CH did not know how to coach in the B1G or even at this level. Granted, I didn’t see it getting this bad but when you can’t beat ORU with 2 NBA guys and a 7 point lead with 2 minutes left, there is something wrong . When you get swept in 3 games by mediocre Penn State that same season…..there is something wrong. When your teams consistently give up last seconds leads, something is wrong.Wow. I did not see this season coming.
Me searching my own posts for “slow footed”As a team, they seem to be slow. Iowa is not Purdue yet they totally stymied the Bucks on defense. I feel bad for Sensibaugh. Kid is in a funk.
Long season - take that how you will because it could be good or bad.
I’ll just duck under some of the tomatoes being thrown at 001/2 to say, I’m not happy with the roster/talent and Holt isn’t doing much on the coaching end to impress the last handful of chances. I want better out of the basketball team and I don’t want to be told “just don’t watch.”
He’s gotta recruit and get ballhandlers in today’s college game. These slow footed, weak dribblers in the backcourt and wings just doesn’t work. Need creators or shooters with the ball in their hands.
I said last year but watching the speed of Baylor guards compared to OSU’s looked like a one team was in water.
I will say Branham is a player and next year’s roster looks better. I’d just prefer not taking average transfers that clutter things. I’m fine sticking with Holtmann - still love the guy and there’s glimpses where the team plays above their level each year. Maybe we look back after he’s been here 20 years and laugh about how mad we were for his first 5. Some things take time and there’s ups/downs along the way.
Not happy but not ready to dump him with upgrades coming so soon.
We beat PSU both times we played them the year we lost to ORU. We lost to ORU because our NBA guard shot the ball poorly and the 2 NBA draftees turned it over 8 times. No offense, but there were signs CH did not know how to coach in the B1G or even at this level. CH doesn’t teach defense because he doesn’t value it.
CH doesn’t teach a motion offense because he prefers some sort of clear out 1 vs double or triple team abortion
CH watches games instead of managing them creating disrupting sub patterns and leaving timeouts on the board while team implodes
CH just does not have it

It's almost like he thinks he has the talent to beat the opponent and can just let his guys go one-on-one all game. The extremely low assist totals aren't a fluke - no one is creating shots for their teammates and these guys are just all trying to get theirs. This is the exact opposite of how a team with many guys who struggle to make shots should be playing. Ugly stuff.I watch alot of college bball and it doesn't appear Holtmann even has a system? Probably a case of recency bias but still I'm just not sure he's cut out for big time cbb success. Doesn't mean he's a bad dude or coach...he's just a guy
Well, let's be honest, the teams he has put together haven't had a full starting 5 with great players. When you put together teams with 2-3 starters that aren't very good, you're generally going to be susceptible to the upset in the tournament. ORU also wasn't the typical #15 seed, having 2 legit college standouts, but that's beside the point. We beat PSU both times we played them the year we lost to ORU. We lost to ORU because our NBA guard shot the ball poorly and the 2 NBA draftees turned it over 8 times.
I don't know whether Holtmann has it in him to elevate the program into the top 10, but its not always on the coach.
Okpara played 14 minutes with Key on the bench for most of the 2nd half last night. He has played 12-16 minutes this season going back to the Minnesota game. He played 31 minutes against Purdue when Key initially got hurt. So I think Felix is residing in the doghouse right now, unfortunately.Okpara picked up his first foul less than 8 minutes into the game, so no. Key aggravated his shoulder several minutes later.

Yes. The recruiting reason, plus Gene will give him at least one more year to show this wasn't just a fluke season. So, are reasonable minds still thinking Holtmann gets another year because of his contract and the incoming class? What happens if two or three of this year’s Freshmen move on to other opportunities? That leaves the roster in the same place it was going into last offseason. If all four do stay, that’s at least a positive indication there is still respect for their coach.
Purdue is a weird team. They have a couple of studs but teams that have the right matchups can handle them. I don't think OSU has a chance but PU is no juggernaut.Purdue got run out of Maryland in the second half, now losing back to back road games.
Seems like a great time for this team to head to Mackey. Another blowout coming.
