Looks like 5 new teams this year.

Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (Ohio Valley)
Stonehill College Skyhawks (Northeast Conference)
Texas A&M - Commerce Lions (Southland)

This post from EW has some bball info in it...

I've looked through a lot of preseason rankings, both online and a couple of magazines (I'm old). It is interesting to me that Sparty and OSU have similar projections: as high as 3rd in the Big 10/Top 25 in the country and as low as 8th/9th in the Big 10 and barely a Top 50 team.

They both lost their top 3 scorers, though I am nearly certain Sueing would have been one of ours. But that is where the similarities end.

The Buckeyes try to replace that production with transfers and Freshmen. One transfer is a stud (Holden) but from one of the worst leagues in America. McNeil and Ice are really solid starting vets from probably the best league in America the last two years. But they were on middling teams and both have glaring weaknesses (Ice-outside shooting, McNeil-defense). Bucks also have 4 Top 70 Freshmen that all have the potential for major roles/impact and they cover every position on the court between them. The only negative is that none are 5 star sure fire studs. Though I disagree with CBS Sports' Matt Norlander's prediction for the Bucks (#38 nationally), his reasoning makes sense: "The portal is leading to a lot of situations around the country wherein it's hard to gauge a team's ceiling or floor because it's hard to figure how revamped rosters with veteran players will fit together." Of course he says that for osu, and picks Illinois to win the Big 10 based mainly on 2 transfers (Shannon Jr, Mayer) and a couple of high rated Freshmen (Skyy Clark and Ty Rodgers). Also has the Illini 9th in the country.

I am holding my breath on Holden. I don't think he is good defensively and should mostly be like the 8th-9th man as a result. McNeil and Ice both are clearly better choices for the core playing group.

back on the hardwood tonight!

What To Watch: Holtmann unveils his sixth OSU team with Chaminade exhibition

The Ohio State men’s basketball team will host Division II Chaminade in its exhibition game Tuesday night at Value City Arena. Big Ten Network-Plus will carry the game on its premium platform beginning at 7 p.m. (see below for access details).

Chris Holtmann is starting his sixth season as the Ohio State head coach. His teams have hit the 20-win plateau in all five of his seasons and also qualified for all four of the NCAA tournaments played during his tenure. Last season, the Buckeyes went 20-12 overall and were tied for fourth in the Big Ten at 12-8. The team fell to Villanova in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State is unranked in the preseason for the first time since Holtmann's second season in 2018-19. The Buckeyes were projected sixth in the Big Ten race, according to a preseason media poll conducted by The Athletic and The Columbus Dispatch. Holtmann's team will look vastly different from last season with junior center Zed Key the only returning starter. Gone are first-team All-Big Ten forward E.J. Liddell and Big Ten freshman of the year Malaki Branham, who each left for the NBA. Longtime program mainstays Kyle Young and Justin Ahrens have also departed.

The team will include five incoming freshmen, three transfers and only four holdovers from last season. Besides Key, also back are senior forward Justice Sueing, junior guard Eugene Brown III and redshirt freshman forward Kalen Etzler. Sueing has been pronounced 100 percent after missing all but two games last season due to injury issues.

The incoming freshmen include guards Bruce Thornton, Roddy Gayle and Bowen Hardman, forward Brice Sensabaugh and center Felix Okpara. Transfers include guard/forward Tanner Holden (from Wright State) and guards Isaac Likekele (Oklahoma State) and Sean McNeil (West Virginia).

Holtmann has assistant coach Jake Diebler back from last season. He has two new assistants in Mike Netti and Jack Owens. Netti was previously a special assistant to the head coach, while Owens has spent the last several seasons as the head coach Miami (Ohio) and as an assistant at Purdue.

How aggressive will Justice Sueing be?

Is Brice Sensabaugh really “him” ?

Will Tanner Holden expand his range?

How many positions will Isaac Likekele play?

How much will we see from Kalen Etzler?

Will Ohio State play fast?

Who becomes the “we need a bucket” guy?

Justice Sueing and Eugene Brown are both out for tonight’s Ohio State exhibition game. Sueing will sit out as a precaution for an ankle sprain and Brown is working through concussion protocol.
