2022/2023 Heisman Trophy Discussion Thread

So Williams had 2 losses, how did his team help him win it?
because everything about college football is trash this year. and because he's miles ahead of every other candidate and still and performance.

and because his sometimes disqualifying second loss came after many voters turned in their ballots

because Caleb wins in spite of his team every single week. He's not carried by them the way that Bryce was in their biggest game (before ballots were turned in by many) when he didn't score a single freaking touchdown until Alabama's defense give him a million second chances against an okay Auburn team. because of those second chances, young turned in a criminal level 10 regulation points on offense instead of the three he should have finished with

If CJ Stroud has a solid but not great defense behind him vs Michigan , he wins in a runaway. he shouldn't because Williams was massively better, but he would.

You’ll notice that earlier in the thread I said a lot of this hinged on when the votes were turned in. However, the voting wasn’t even close and I’m not sure a Michigan win would have propelled CJ further up the board. CJ is a good QB, but outside of the Rose Bowl last year, he really has no defining/high profile performances or wins.

Did the team breakdown against UM, absolutely. Did CJ have all day to throw and opportunities to use his feet to improve the Buckeyes chances in winning the Game, absolutely. While it was a team loss CJ didn’t help his case.

When you look at the finishers in 1st and 2nd place, they have something in common that CJ hasn’t shown to-date. They are dynamic players who lay it on the line to win. Looking back at past winners that seems to be the type of player that wins the award.

None of this is meant to disparage CJ, it’s just why I’m not surprised by his finish.

If Sonny Dykes had called for a QB sneak from the 1-yard line, they might be undefeated and that might have been enough for Duggan to win it.
I don't think that was the issue. I think the issue was the narrative Caleb Williams won it during the notte Dame game and a good chunk of voters had already turned in their ballots.

I'd like for there to be a way that you couldn't vote till the season was over.
