What? Is not signing a DT in two straight classes bad? They are keeping DL coach Shuan Nua. MGo crew is unimpressed.
https://mgoblog.com/content/hello-shaun-nua-defensive-line-coachNua continues a theme: youth. Michigan's added four assistants (pending McDaniels becoming official); all are in their 30s. Many of these guys are wild cards and Nua's no exception. Recruiting to Navy is a different world than recruiting to Michigan and it's tough to judge how he's developing guys when academy teams are operating from such a different POV than "did he get enough guys drafted and have good stats?" One season at ASU doesn't tell you much more, especially when it's year one of Herm.
Welp.Nua, a native of Pago Pago, should help Michigan recruit Pacific Islanders amongst others to their DL. And if there's anything you learn with six years at Navy it's how to get your guys technique up to compensate for their general lack of size. Seems like a good bet. Another good bet: in five years he'll be a better coach than Greg Mattison.
I like their giddiness over the new DC's.

They are young and black so they'll be able to connect with the players and recruit well...... blah blah blah
That is almost word for word what they said about Ron English at one point.
A lot of Cowboys fans did not think Mo Linguist was particularly qualified or effective as an NFL secondary coach.

This is awesome: I was literally working on an identical reply when you posted. You just knew there would be a post when Nua was hired that sounded exactly like the dfbia reaction to the new hires, and that Brian blog was perfect.Huh...take a look at this little passage from _goblog's write-up on Nua after he was hired two years ago...

What's that they say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?
Bonus:
Welp.

Coach’s Hotseat has him first...3 of the top 4 are B1G, in fact (Hairball, Brohm, Frost)Let's be realistic here - Simple Jim is on maybe the hottest seat in CFB right now with a contract that makes firing him a breeze. That makes attracting good and established assistants basically impossible. Unproven guys that are in demand by no one else are pretty much his only option.
But man, the talent is tantalizing. We have good linemen, good WR's, and some good QB talent there and coming in. The RB room is stuffed even with the loss of Charbonnet. We just need some development (better routes, please, WR's. Let's get some Ruddock like development on the QBs) and some consistency with the run game (Please Mike, make that better).
