Exit Zach Charbonnet
Brian January 18th, 2021 at 5:34 PM

This is a bummer man:

Michigan sophomore running back Zach Charbonnet entered the transfer portal on Monday, 247Sports has learned.

Charbonnet was largely sidelined this season with just 19 carries as Hassan Haskins took over as the top back. Haskins is back. Michigan also has Blake Corum returning and brings in Donovan Edwards and Tavierre Dunlap, so they're likely to be fine at the spot.

Charbonnet brought the biggest upside of anyone in the backfield and was a killer pass-blocker, so his loss is a loss. Michigan's streak of highly rated running back busts continues unabated. Please direct complaints to Steve Lorenz, who did not follow my directive to have Charbonnet's ranking top out at #51.
I ask again...why would any RB rated in the top-150 ever consider that program?

He's the one that took his first carry of the season 70 yards for a TD. So his other 18 carries for the season totaled 54 yards.
So, 3 yards a carry after his first one?

Reminds one of that great 100-yard performance he had against Army in his second game of 2019, on 33 carries.

Since Mike Hart left after 2007, scUM has had just two running backs eclipse the 1000-yard mark for a season; Ohio State has had nine.

Trey Sermon had 868 yards rushing in just seven games in 2020 (he was injured on the first play in the eighth game, a 2-yard carry). Sermon would've been scUM's leading rusher in 10 of the past 13 seasons post-Hart.

Here's a comparison of Ohio State and scUM running backs since 2007:

Mike Hart was a 6th round pick in the 2008 draft; none of his successors, not a single one, has been drafted.

Ohio State, on the other hand, has had two 1st rounders (Elliott, Wells) and three 2nd rounders (Hyde, Dobbins, and Curtis Samuel, who had 771 yards rushing as a a freakin' H-back in 2016); Herron (6th round) and Weber (7th round) were also drafted.

Why would any top RB go to scUM? Damned if I know. Hell, Rod Smith (549 career rushing yards at Ohio State) has had a better NFL career than any of scUM's running backs, Mike Hart included. Winged helmets and barbecues, I guess....

Haskins is a good candidate for the September Heisman next year considering their September schedule is West Michigan, Washington, Northern Illinois and Rutgers, All at home

Then it comes crashing down @ Wisconsin the first weekend of October

That is if they can get by Washington and Rutgers first.

Re: Michigan football RB Zach Charbonnet plans to transfer

Just sayin': Well, apparently Charbonnet is convinced that somebody out there does.
