I just rewatched the game vs Tulsa
First D play of the game we did twist our LBs through opposite A gaps. Third play of the game, we had 3rd and long and two DEs were up in two point, and the both LBs blizted the Offenses right, A and B gaps. The last 3rd and long we did stand all four guys up.
Second possession, about the sixth play we brought another A B twist to the left side. 8th play they brought both LBs through the same B gap to the right. 10th play we brought another A cross blitz.
Third drive. Fourth play we brought the bullet off the edge. One thing that is standing out. Very few Dline stunts at all. Fifth play 3rd and long, two guys in three points and two two points, brought both backers straight A gaps picked up easily.
Fourth drive. Third play we walked one LB up and he came, ended in what should have been INT.
Fifth drive, last of the half with 47 seconds left. We drop 8 for the first time with 18 seconds left, we are basically in a prevent. We stood everyone up on the next play with 12 seconds left but came with 4.
Second Half, first drive. Third play double A blitz, stood two DEs up. Three and out.
Second drive. Third play walked both LBs up in A gaps and X'd. Fifth play finally a Dline stunt and JTT almost gets home, double loop. Sixth play, walked up Sam, brought sam in A with Mike coming right behind him. 8th play of the drive we went to a three man front dime package and dropped 8 on 3rd and 20.
Fifth play walked Sam up and straight ahead. Punt.
Next drive after the TO, four plays TD zero blitzes.
Next possession, fourth play we walked Sam up and brought him on a run easily blocked. Sixth play walked both up in A gaps and brought them. Ninth play, walked them both up in the double A, blocked easily TD.
Next drive, 8 snaps, zero blitzes. Williams with a big sack on third down.
So we are now down to just over 3 minutes left in the game. We have dropped 8 twice, once in the first half with 18 seconds left, and once with a dime package in on 3rd and 20. We are yet to see a DE drop into coverage.
With 3:07 left, we came out in something other than our base 4-3 or nickel. We have only 2 DE's in, zero DT's, the LBs are walked up and only one of them coming but the other is spying the QB. It is a dime package with 4 in the box. This is basically a prevent. 2 deep safteies. INT for a TD. We still weren't dropping 8. We rushed three and spied the QB.
Last drive, 1:46, we have our subs in and back into our base defense.Third down back to the dime package. End of game
So we are not dropping 8 with any regularity, and only did so twice as mentioned above. We aren't dropping DE's or replacing LBs with Dlinemen etc. We did blitz LBs through the same gap twice. The lack of Dline stunts was eye opening. When we did they were successful. That is what I see after rewatching the game.
