We really need our pass D to step up more often. It's not just this Purdue game, this has been the trend outside of a respite of a few games where it looked like things were turned around after the shakeup.

We seem to get sliced up on short passes, especially comeback and flat routes because it seems like we are always playing way off man, not using inside leverage and in zone there are just holes everywhere. We didn't have a sack today IIRC, not even a coverage sack. Want to run on us, hit the perimeter, but teams are better served to be pass first against us.

I understand bend don't break. I get trying to play the odds of converting multiple 3rd downs sacrificing shorter yardage plays, but we haven't been getting those stops. We don't seem to show as many looks or disguise coverage.

PSU only had around 60 or so yards less of offense than we did, and they did it with only 33 rushing yards, that was with 3 TOs compared to our 1.

A win is a win. But I feel like the D needs is going to need be able adjust faster and more effectively in the next two games, and without question in playoffs if we get there.

Good news is that the next two teams on the schedule are run first offenses which matches up to the strength of this defense. Not it's weakness.

True, as long they don't run outside. The flipside though is Cade seems like he's feeling himself lately and has been throwing the ball a lot more against tougher opponents. We know the offense can explode, but also know it can put up 27 points. I really want the defense to take some pressure off the O to ensure Hairball doesn't get a chance to feel vindicated just once after all these years of holding Ls.

I hear you but that's the bet Ryan Day made long ago. This is an offense first team and if you hold them under 30, it's going to be an uncomfortably close game for OSU.

Not that easy to hold them under 30 though and when you start having to score 30+, teams like tsun are at a significant disadvantage.

If I'm thinking forward and optimistically, the only team left that passes that way that would be brutal is Bama because their outside receivers need attention. Everyone else is run first but we got to own the state up north first.

Yeah and I hate to say it but all it takes is a poor game by our offense and ttun can win this year.

I have no clue how ttun is any good this year I really don't. Provided we take care of business vs Sparty it should be a top 10 showdown.

We always work ourselves into a fearful frenzy at this point but I keep recalling that we have a metric and imperial shit ton more talent than either of those teams. Count it how ever you want to.

All it takes is a change of heart and I'm banging Jessica Alba.

Should be interesting what we do after the season is over though. This is now 3 out of 4 years the defense has been far below the standard. Something isn't right and I think we know it's not an issue of talent.

It's called modern college football. They fixed the biggest issue which was a DC living in the (recent) past where you could run press man with predictable frequency.

Spend the offseason practicing zone defense and keep recruiting the level of athlete you are currently recruiting and it will be fine.

Good defense is keeping a good offense under 30 anymore. The two deep safety, zone based defenses that keep everything in front of them are back and that means sometimes you are going to give up some yards and 3 or so TD's in a game.
