2021 Spring Practices, Game, and Tidbits

It's pretty clear to me...

CJ is the starter and frankly I think Kyle is the back up. CJ seems to have a ton more confidence going down the field. Jack tends to check the ball down a ton which is great on 3rd and 3 but CJs abilities on early down play action is very noticeable.

I’m not sure how clear it is, but if I had to put them 1-2-3 tomorrow I’d also go CJ, Kyle, Jack.

My goodness.... Sawyer with his 4th or 5th sack??
He seems to have the instincts to go for forced fumbles when he’s coming off the edge. I know he can’t try to light a QB up today, but he’s gotten his hands on the ball and/or throwing arm a couple of times. I’d rather have the ball on the ground than see the QB planted.

He's got a different gear off the ball... I won't lie he reminds me so much of Nick. Size, speed, ability to bull rush and a ridiculous first step.

Would be shocked if he's not a 3red down guy right away. If we can land JTT our rush man package should be ridiculous.

As was pointed out how ridiculous is our WR group? We throw out 2/5/6 and 11 to start and we still haven't even mentioned 4/12/18 and even 13. I have no doubts 12 and 18 start at every school other than maybe IU this upcoming season.

We’re on the same page today. I wasn’t going to post it, but Nick was the guy that Sawyer reminded me of.

Some very abbreviated notes on the Spring Game....

1. C.J. Stroud is the presumed starter at QB, but he lacked the "it" factor; however, with the QB run being essentially nonexistent due to the format of the game, Stroud was limited in what he could show. Kyle McCord looked the best of the three, but does Ryan Day really want to start a true freshman? Jack Miller looks like a career backup, at least at Ohio State. The Buckeyes' walk-on QBs (Jagger LaRoe and J.P. Andrade) could start at MAC schools.

2. Captain Obvious Alert: Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave looked like NFL wide receivers.

3. Marvin Harrison Jr. is the Next Big Thing. Or maybe it's Emeka Egbuka. Both guys will see significant time this year, and will pass some older players on the depth chart.

4. TreVeyon Henderson is so smooth - speed, vision, cutting ability, surprising power, and excellent hands; he's your starting RB before the end of 2021. Marcus Crowley also looked good, especially as a receiver. With a freshman QB starting in 2021, it will be important for Ohio State to have an RB who can act as a "safety valve" in the passing game (it was no coincidence that there were so many throws to the RBs today).

5. No comments on the OL because it was such a patchwork job, other than to say that Paris Johnson Jr. mauled some people.

6. Also, I can't say much about the defense because there was no tackling. However, I will make a bold prediction: Jack Sawyer will not start as a true freshman because other guys have "earned" that right, but he will lead the team in sacks. Over/under: 8.5 sacks. He's your next three-and-done All American top-5 draft pick.
