2021 Fall Camp and Other Tidbits

I think as long as we keep the 1 blue chip per class thing going we can maintain the crazy depth we have. 1 5 star kid, 2 borderline 5 star and 1-2 "projects".

Yeah, I consider a high 4 star a blue chipper. So 3 rankings studs and 2 projects kind of thing.

Also as others have pointed out, this 2-4 OT's getting drafted high soon thing should help.

So, not sure if we’re considering Thayer a blue chipper or not. He was top-300… barely, IIRC. That said, his back story and the fact that he wasn’t a big camper (also IIRC) likely played into that rating.

The kid came up through some tough situations and with a lot of determination got his tOSU offer. Late, IIRC.

That said, I’m not certain that his ranking coming out of HS was a very good reflection of his skills at the time… let alone, his potential.

Either way, he’s been one of my favorites in a long while to root for. I’m looking forward to him having a great season and making bank when he leaves.

I think McCall looked good in coverage. Yes, I am rooting for him.
I was just thinking the same. The looked good in coverage part.

And yes, I’m rooting for him too.
Same thing I said. If he had longer arms, that’s incomplete.
The Letterman Row practice coverage mentioned that he’s looked better and better each time they’ve seen him, but also that he was picked on in goal line jump ball situations. They mentioned that it was Olave and Harrison Jr. going over top of him for jump balls, so it’s hard to say if that’s a weakness of his (probably a little bit due to height) or if he’s just pulling matchups against NFL first rounders and not looking great in that situation because of it.

I give McCall credit for the position change. My opinion only, but I think at this late stage it’d be hard to put him in anything but man coverage.

I always like his positioning (kid is an athletic freak)….u can just tell he needs a bit more seasoning (think the Olave catch over his head in Spring Game).

All that said, I hope he contributes. I think he can honestly. Even if it’s just depth.
