Alright... I had to break down and actually read this bullshit.... just to see what sort of smoke and mirrors are being sold.... A couple things stood out to me... First, was the memory that Weeb Eubanks, or whatever the fuck his name is, announcing his return for his senior season... as if he was a viable early entrant... Let's set the scene:
This is the beginning of the paragraph preceding the one in which the author will discuss the TE position...
The biggest question is the offensive line, which has to replace four starters from a year ago.
OK. So, then, what of the TE Position?
Tight end is the only position that isn’t quite as formidable
Oh. I see.
Alright.. backing up... Let's talk about skill positions..
Beyond that, the skill positions are beyond loaded.
The running backs room is so crowded with playmakers, it’s difficult to discern just who will be the leader of the group.
Beyond loaded?
Umm.. OK. Crowded with playmakers, you say? Well, let's take a look then...
Zach Charbonnet - 149-726 (4.9) .. who could forget his 33 carry, 100 yard (3.0) performance against Army? Best game was probably Illinois 18-116 (6.4) and a TD, though he did go for 84 yards on 13 carries against Bama (6.5) but with no scores. Against Wisconsin he had 2 carries for 6 yards. Against Ohio State he had 4 for 7 ... he was an empty 7 for 30 against Sparty
Hassan Haskins 121-622 (5.1) This former LB had his best game against ND 20-149 (7.5) with no scores, followed up by his performance against Illinois.. (Hey, wait.. did Illinois' run defense suck in 2019 or something? (hint: 104th ranked)) 12-125 (10.4) 1 score. Wisconsin? 1 carry, 3 yards lost. Sparty? 6 for 13 and a touch. To his credit, he did play well against Ohio State 12-78 (6.5) and a score.
Chris Evans DNP in 2019 2018 - 81-423 (5.2) This guy has 3 100 yard games in his career, and none since the 9th game of his sophomore season against 2017 Minnesota. After a year off, and behind a "questionable" O line... I'm sure he's tanned rested and ready.
Christian Tuner 44-171 (3.9) Talk about a playmaker! This guy went for 49 yards on 11 carries against MTSU.... and... 48 yards on 11 carries with a score against Rutgers. I suspect he may have been scUM's leading rusher in the Wisconsin game, considering what I've already wrote.. he ran 6 times for 17 yards (2.8). But, really.. where this playmaker shined was in the Illinois and Maryland games where he ran for -4 yards and -6 respectively. Hey.. didn't Illinois suck against the run in 2019? (Hint: Yes. Yes they did).
Blake Corum Incoming Freshman Composite 12 RB 128th overall. Early enrollee... who, if memory serves couldn't wait to work out with Bonaduce, according to Bonaduce's "father"
moving on...
Wideout is just as loaded
Just LOADED, you say? Well, by all means, let's take a look at how fuckin loaded they are...
Nico Collins - 37 catches for 729 and 7 scores. Would you be surprised to learn that 23% of Collins' yardage was gained in one game? Well, that's the case.. as he had 6 grabs for 165 yards and 3 scores against Indiana. His next best game was against Ped, where he also had 6 catches for and empty 89 yards. BUt.. you know.. he was a Bama recruit, so he's probably really good.
Ronnie Bell ("had a breakout season last year") 48 Receptions for 758 yards and a score. Not bad for a former Missouri State basketball commit. If you're curious how Ohio State's break out WR did last years, it's Chris Olave.. 48 Receptions for 840 yards and 12 scores.
Giles Jackson 9 Rec for 142 and a TD. He's never gained more than 54 yards in a game as a WR (4 for 54 against Bama). He had an additional 50 yards on a single reception against Indiana. He was primarily used on jet sweeps where he had 10 carries for 69 yards and a score (which came against Ohio State, as you may recall)
Mike Sainristil - Who? Played in 6 games... compiled 8 catches for 145 and a score (Notre Dame where he had 3 receptions for 73 yards to go along with it... his best game as a collegian)
Cornelius Johnson - Who? 4 catches for 61 yards. Looks like he played 3 games and will be a rFr in 2020.
A.J. Henning - Incoming Frosh Composite 18 WR and 101 overall
Roman Wilson - Incoming Frosh Composite 57 WR 348 overall
In fairness, Collins and Bell aren't a bad 1 2 punch. But, after those two.. and really, even with them, I'm not exactly wowed here. I mean, they had all those guys and Black and DPJ last year ... Not sure they get better losing those two straight up for any 2 of the other 4 clowns on this list. Maybe by "loaded" the author was talking about being drunk or something, I don't know.
