Ok because I'm bored... WHAT IF.... All juniors come back? I realize they won't and we'd be lucky to just get 1. However for fun would 2020 be the deepest team ever?

Defense is a major concern for me. Hoping Day knocks it out of the park again with his new DC.
Gonna need Harrison and Smith to make a leap at DE and need some of the freshman DB's to bite early. I feel pretty good about Banks, Proctor, and Riep but the depth is iffy to say the least.
Well that's exactly what we are going to get in 2020. I love Mack, Hill, and Victor but Wilson/Olave/Williamson are a more talented trio. Then you add in the 4 kids coming who are all coming early? Whew good luck to anyone. We just added 4 more Garret Wilsons to the team as far as I'm concerned and we all saw what he did this year. Also from the 2nd bye week on Justin was basically throwing for 300+ a game. I also think next years OL will be better too and then Justin has hundreds more reps in our system? We saw what year 1 to year 2 did for Joe and IMO it'll be the same for Justin.Yeah, thinking back to the last drive against Clemson, it's hard not to wonder about the next wave of starters next year. It's extremely hard to replace guys mid-game on that stage but I don't see a future Ward/Okudah at DB. Solid guys and maybe Proctor has a breakout year.
DL should be fine. Not going to be as good, but might if the DEs get healthy and take a step, they might come close. A lot of talent there.
LBs absolutely have to figure things out. It's frustrating to see guys on other teams with medium talent able to beak down and tackle more consistently while still bringing the heat with a blitz or covering well. Werner is a very good LB with range and a good tackler. Outside of him it's a lot of uncertainty. Browning has become a very good blitzer and needs to see the field, but teams are able to pick on him a lot.
To beat Clemson/the field, either the offense will have to be historic and carry the defense, or a lot of young guys will have to take major steps in the spring and summer. Maybe a bit of both.
I want a modern defensive coordinator with no base defense.,game plan and situation specific. Who uses schemes to free up his best players to be successful. For example blitzes stunts mush rush. Use your whole roster various personnel packages. Get the young guys on the field.Yeah, thinking back to the last drive against Clemson, it's hard not to wonder about the next wave of starters next year. Who won’t give up 92 yds in 4 plays,Someone from the NFL who uses defenses like Pitt, NE, SF,

So Hafley...So Venables
Perhaps I should've said goal line impotency. We couldn't even punch it in from two out against Rutgers. When we got close, we had trouble performing. That needs to be fixed.Haha what? We were great on both sides all year.
If Justin was healthy we also do well against Clemson.

We can play base and out talent any team on our schedule until we face a Lawerence/Dabo or Tua/Saban or Mayfield/Riley.,then we need a better scheme..92 yds in 4 plays. Dabo and Lawerence were more prepared and out executed tOSU on that last series. We melted down and were helpless to stop them. We couldn’t play over the calls but if they went the other way would Clemson prevail anyway? So Hafley...
But for all of that scheme less defense that you mentioned @Onebuckfan, you can win multiple ways I'm CFB, Bama and LSU have base defenses and the results have spoken for themselves. I know that Saturday was a heart wrenching loss, trust me I'm still getting over it and have found it hard to even watch football. But we are still not far off from returning to the CFP next year and winning another B1G championship. OSU is still one of the "haves" schools(among 4-5) in a nation of have nots. Regardless if we get Coombs or not(I want him the most of the listed names) we are still elite. Hell, with the shitshow that schiano ran we still won the B1G and a NY6 bowl game, that's how good this program is! Day has taken it to another level, I believe fully that well be back in the hunt next year. And so will Clemson, next we year we have to capitalize.
We can bitch and moan about all of the blown calls, FGs, missed plays, etc, but we lost, and we gave the country and the media a big middle finger towards their southern superiority. Ol Dabo knows he was getting his ass handed to him, and he lucked up into a W. Kudos, but 2020 is the Buckeyes year, regardless of who returns
