2020 Team Discussion Thread

Schedule wise we are set up better too..
  • Sept. 5 – Bowling Green
  • Sept. 12 – at Oregon
  • Sept. 19 – Buffalo
  • Sept. 26 – Rutgers
  • Oct. 3 – Off
  • Oct. 10 – Iowa
  • Oct. 17 – at Michigan State
  • Oct. 24 – at Penn State
  • Oct. 31 – Nebraska
  • Nov. 7 – Indiana
  • Nov. 14 – at Maryland
  • Nov. 21 – at Illinois
  • Nov. 28 – Michigan
Yeah nice schedule for sure. At Sparty and Penn State back-to-back weeks could be tricky but MSU is probably going to be even more inept than they already are on offense.

Iowa has a 70 point decimation coming their way.

But yeah if Wade, Dobbins, Okudah, and Young somehow came back, 2020 Buckeyes would probably shatter 2019's point differential.

Iowa better be a slaughter. Never going to forget 2017 and that smug B10COY bastard jogging out to midfield after the game. Salt the fucking Earth after that one.

Crowley Teague combo will be fine.
I look for Crowley to be our primary personally. I love Teague but he runs too stiff.

No one has what we have next year.

LSU/Bama lose their QBs, Clemson should lose all of their skill people plus Simmons, and OU should be markedly worse.

We are going to be back strong next year and we will have the best QB in football. We will be back and IMO we will win it all.

Words can't describe how much I want 1 or 2 surprises out of our early departures.

I also expect one significant grad transfer......the portal is really deep right now.

I don’t think the staff has had ample time to assess and evaluate the talent they’d like to explore beyond Pantoni and staff likely keeping close tabs on the growing list.

Now that the season is over, and we have a better idea of roster number for 2020, I’d expect to see at least 1 significant signing. I think cultural fit is huge for the program right now so a thorough look at if an immediately eligible player makes us better on the field and in locker room may take a few weeks. There’s some studs out there though......

Any logical guesses? I'd imagine the secondary.

I think we like our OL prospects so I doubt we go that route.

I don’t want to speculate, but I’d guess DB, RB, and to a lesser extent LB would be focus areas.

Jonah Jackson and Fields were obviously great additions by the staff last year (and there was some back channeling with Fields) so Day and crew know how to work this.

Should probably throw the caveat out that players can’t be contacted by schools unless they’re in the portal. There is an active database of players currently in the portal here:

https://247sports.com/Season/2020-Football/TransferPortal/

What isn’t that well known or considered by the average college football enthusiast, is these teams (or at least the good/diligent ones) have an entire list of players on rosters that would be immediately eligible should they transfer. Sometimes a guy on the team needs needs to call his buddy on a middling team in the ACC and let him know “X” is the spot to be if he wants to ball out for a year and develop his skills at an elite program.

If we do land a guy, I don’t think it’s anyone currently on the portal list now.

Didn't see a ton of difference makers at DB but then again it was a brief look. We are set up well to win in 2020 so it's an easy decision to come aboard for a kid looking to get into the playoffs.

Yeah Harry is def starting at LG and we have lots of options at tackle frankly with NPF, Jones, and Paris.

DB will be interesting to see.

DB will also be influenced be new Co-DC we bring in, and their scheme preference. Obviously Hafley was more impartial to 4 DB’s and really only playing 1 safety most of the time.

What could be a huge blow is the loss of both Isiah Pryor and Brendan White if a new coach comes in and is a bit more traditional....those guys may of jumped ship a little quick.

Again, it’s tough to say because coaches get attached to certain guys that fit scheme best. I think it’ll be the least talented secondary we’ve seen in a long time, but at same time I expect better than the clusterfuck that was Greg Schiano in 2018.....even with talent.

I think Amir Riep will likely stay in a nickel slot position that keeps him in center of field.

Cam Brown and Sevyn Banks man the corners. Josh Proctor takes Fuller’s position.

If we go to a more traditional look with two safeties I think I give the nod to Marcus Hooker although I know Day is already exceptionally high on Lathan Ransom. Could potentially see some significant true freshman action back there next year at times.

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about the lack of obvious top talent at DB. I think Banks looks good and could be as really good player. Same with Proctor, he could be a star in that role. Not sure what to think about Brown and Williamson. Hard to be down on anyone when Conley, Lattimore, Ward all had early struggles.
