2020 Team Discussion Thread

I don’t think we are thin as much as we are unproven.

Guys like Togai, Garrett, Vincent were all very highly rated guys. All have gotten decent PT too. I think it’s just about seeing them get starter reps. I don’t have much concern about the DL in general.....think it’ll be a bit more by committee and back to more of a “rushmen” package which was not used frequently in 2019.

I expect Tyreke Smith to kick down on 3rd downs next year, like we used to do with the Bosa’s on occasion.

Antuan jackson and Jerron Cage say hi

I expect Togai to have a ridiculous season next year and place himself firmly in the camp of great DT. Vincent should grow into his role well next year too and our DL should be amongst the top five in college football is my prediction.
Yep same. Togai is the strongest on the team and is a bigger DT being over 300 pounds. I think he will take on that Devon Hamilton role next season.

I’ve tried to erase the whole memory. Maybe I’m wrong but I thought we’d gotten eaten up inside, too.
Probably, but the main issue we had is that our OTs played matador blocking technique the entire game. We made Moss and Harvey millions from that game. I still have nightmares of those 2. That’s why when Urban got to OSU, getting a strong DL coach who could send waves of DEs at the QB was such a priority.
DL has always been the main difference in why the SEC has been so dominant in CFB, and why Clemson has closed that gap.

OSU has the horses to compete on the DL next year(they sure as hell had them this year too), inside and out. Harrison, Cooper, Smith, Friday, JJB better be ready and healthy this year without one dominant DE, they all will be relied upon. And with Togai clogging the middle, Vincent could do damage like a Dremont Jones.

He did and the TD against Illinois was one of the few instances of flashing actual RB talent that I can recall. The TD in The Game '02 was a walk in in the sense there was no hole to misread. He just had to catch a pitch and sprint for the end zone.

Earlier in that same game you saw the textbook issue with him where he was missing gaping holes along the LOS and the offense was stagnant. MoC comes in and they go straight down the field and score the only TD of the first half.

I am always respectful of the kids as people, how much work they put in, the physical toll they pay and more. That doesn't change the fact that some of them just aren't any good, even at this level. Ross and Mo Wells were the two worst RB's I've seen at OSU in the 40 some odd years I've been watching it.

You missed out on the Tom Barrington years. Woody had some great lineman who opened holes, but Barrington was so slow he couldn't get to and through in time. I remember one particularly long day in the 'shoe and hearing a voice bellow, "Where in the hell did we get these running backs?" The response came back, "From the track team." Let's just say that there was no Jesse Owens or Glenn Davis on the track team that year.

Quite the opposite, actually. Pittman was averaging over 5ypc that game. I know that because I remember reading the stats the next day. I was pretty belligerently drunk just after halftime. Really couldn't tell you much about
what happened after and possess any type of clarity. I just remember feeling that it was one of the few times I had ever seen Tress so incredibly shell shocked and outcoached along with his players completely unready to play.

Ohio State scored to make it 21-14 by running the ball. Then they abandoned the run completely except for a boneheaded 4th down play in their end of the field when Tressel lost his mind. The rest is a drunken blur.

Our OL played like they were in a drunken blur as well. I’ve never seen such an ill equipped OL. And this game is when the SEC mystique began. They didn’t have more team speed, just speed at the ends that utterly surprised our OTs and Troy couldn’t look at one WR before he was on his back
