2020 B1G Season - Starts Oct. 23/24

If Warren fuck this up, he's not long for his position

If I'm the TV network broadcasting the B1G title game (Fox?), I'm not crazy about one-loss Indiana over undefeated Ohio State.

"Yeah, but they can't arbitrarily change the six-game rule"

They arbitrarily made the fucking thing up in September.

Seriously, only the B1G could complicate this situation.

"This year has been about adapting, and we've been doing that all season. In light of the facts at hand we are not going to prevent our only undefeated team from playing in the title game, simply because two of their opponents were unable to play."

It's not hard.

How many games canceled does it take to drive the average to 5 game min?

Big Ten should just sit this week out and cater some matchups next week. End with the best crossovers games using whatever teams can suit up.
18 total games for the season would get the average to 5.43, so it would round down to 5. Even if all 7 were cancelled this week, it wouldn’t get to 18, as only 8 games have been cancelled thru last Saturday.

The ridiculousness of the rule is highlighted by the fact that 17 league-wide cancellations requires teams to have 6 games, while the 18th cancellation would have lowered the requirement to 3 games, since 3 is within 2 of the rounded average for 5.43.

The rule simply should have said that teams need to be within 2 games of the league average. The Buckeyes 5 games will be within the average, which will at most be a little below 7, even if the other 6 games are played this week.

You know what is even more ridiculous? The B1G acting like they are bound to follow this rule regardless of the circumstances.

Big Ten weighing change to championship criteria
The Game is officially cancelled. For the first time since 1917, Ohio State and Michigan won’t play this season. The Wolverines are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak and cancelled the biggest rivalry in college football.

With the cancellation, the Buckeyes won’t meet the Big Ten criteria for making the conference title game — which currently sits at a six-game minimum. But the Big Ten knows it has to allow its best team to play for a conference championship — while allowing the Buckeyes a chance to make the College Football Playoff. So will the league make a change to the schedule to give the Buckeyes a sixth game, making them eligible for the Big Ten title game? Or will the conference powers take away the six-game requirement? Will they not allow the Buckeyes into the Big Ten title game due to a lack of games played? Those questions are yet to be answered.

“I think the [minimum-games rule] was one of those things that was put into place early on, and decisions are made based on the information that you have at the time,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said on Tuesday just an hour before the cancellation. “Things change, as we know. They cancelled a non-conference season early on, it got changed to conference only, then it got changed to no season, then it got changed to a season — there’s been a lot of changes. I think we have to take a hard look periodically at all this stuff. I think this is one of those situations.”
