2020 B1G Season - Starts Oct. 23/24

Since it looks like there’s now a good chance of The Game not happening on 12/12, the B1G should re-evaluate the cross-divisional plan for 12/19.

Rather than have tOSU play Wiscy and TTUN play a 4th or 5th place team from the West, have these games on 12/19:

The Game - TTUN at Ohio State

The Battle for the Axe - Wisconsin versus Minnesota, the most-played rivalry in FBS, which was previously cancelled

Or does that make too much sense for Kevin Warren to approve it?
I'm pretty sure 3 of the 4 schools would be in favor of this arrangement. #4 might not be so eager.

The Game - TTUN at Ohio State, last conference game of the year for Ohio State since 1935

The Battle for the Axe - Wisconsin versus Minnesota, the most-played rivalry in FBS, which was previously cancelled (credit to @Bucky32 for this part). This game has been played every year since Teddy Roosevelt interrupted it in 1906, when a touchdown was only worth 5 points. That’s a tradition worth extending.

Or does that make too much sense for Kevin Warren to approve it?

I agree with the conference making 12/19 priority for rivalries that didn’t get played first. That’s a really good move. You need to take this to them.

Do you really think it’s a good chance we don’t play The Game on 12/12?

Based on TTUN’s situation with COVID, moreso than tOSU’s.

"Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription is.. MORE COWBELL!"

All right, Buckeyes, it is time for this town to get down! You've got Johnny... Dr. Johnny Fever, and I am burning up in here! WHOA! We ALL in critical condition babies, but you can tell me where it hurts, 'cause I got the healing prescription here from the big 'KRP musical medicine cabinet! Now I am talking about your 50,000-watt intensive CARE unit, babies! So just sit right down, relax, open your ears REAL wide and say "Give it to me straight, doctor, I can take it!" I almost forgot, fellow babies... BOOGER!

In response to a question from @zbuck, in The Game’s thread, but it also belongs here:
Will we have the ability to play another Big team if there is another pairing cancelation ??

Would you rather play another team to get in our 6 game minimum and then play Northwestern or say fuck it let play The Game on the 19th ??
Interesting question, if we play this week and TTUN cancels for 12/12.

Here are the games on 12/12:

Saturday, Dec. 12
Michigan at Ohio State | 12 p.m. | FOX, MAYBE
Wisconsin at Iowa
Michigan State at Penn State
Minnesota at Nebraska
Illinois at Northwestern
Purdue at Indiana
Rutgers at Maryland

If Wiscy, Iowa, Nebraska, NW’ern, Indiana, or Rutgers cancels, we could play one of these on 12/12:

Iowa
Wiscy
Minny
Illinois
Purdue
Maryland

That could get us to 6 games after Sparty this week.

Interesting choice, I think Gene Smith would try to play for the B1G Championship, which might be an unpopular move. But if TTUN isn’t able to play on 12/12, there’s no guarantee they’d be available 12/19. So it’s probably the smart move.

They could try to squeeze The Game in on 12/26, but that only leaves 5 open days before the CFB semi-final bowls on Jan 1st, so I don’t think they’d try to do that.

If Illinois and TTUN both cancel on 12/12, I don’t think the B1G would let us play the CCG on 12/12 with NW’ern, and then play TTUN on 12/19, but that’s a remote possibility.

Alvarez: B1G could discuss title game rule change for Ohio State

Asked about where the Big Ten could go from here with Michigan canceling the game this weekend and if the Big Ten could chance any requirements, Alvarez gave the following answer:

"I would think if something would happen to Ohio State and they'd have to cancel another game, that that's something we've got to revisit. They're sitting up there ranked No. 4. Our league can't keep them from having the opportunity if they have the chance to be in the finals."

Alvarez was then asked if that was an athletic director-level decision and he said, "Yeah, we meet weekly. Those are things we discuss. We may make some adjustments on that last week. That's sort of a flexible week of scheduling. But those are things we talk about and certainly you've got to consider, or reconsider"
