if osu plays its b1g-acc challenge opponent on the road, which is likely just based on home/away balance, then here are next season's home games:
oakland
niagara
akron
towson
morehead state
alabama a&m
yeah, that's probably the worst non-conference slate of home games that osu has ever scheduled. only akron (82nd) finished better than 150th per kenpom. only two programs finished better than 230th.
sure, osu's overall non-conference strength of schedule will probably prove to be quite strong since there will likely be 6 games versus decent opponents all away from home. last year, we played 4 non-conference teams that ended the season in the top 50. only 3 proved to be quad 1 games. this year, we should have either 5 or 6 quad 1 non-conference games. if the b1g's overall strength holds somewhat comparably to last season, then osu should finish the regular season with about 18 quad 1 games. very few national teams would have more.
regarding the location of osu's b1g-acc challenge game, a home game would give us a +2 advantage versus away games. it's possible we go +2, but it is unlikely. and i think it's more unlikely that we'll be scheduled to play a 3rd home game out of the last 4 challenges. the thing is, our non-conference home schedule is so laughably bad that i can't help but assume that ho1tmann & co. are pushing hard for a home game versus an acc opponent. perhaps a home game happens because of that reason alone.
then again, maybe osu is content not having a home game versus an acc opponent. maybe this is the one season where it's preferable to have the worst possible schedule of non-conference home games. our fanbase is already good at socially distancing themselves in the schott. against morehead state et al., we can be great at it.
